Default How to find a car/truck you sold years ago? Last seen in NJ

Trying to track down a vehicle I owned and traded in at a dealership back in December 2002/January 2003.
Anyone know how I can track it down? I had a friend run a carfax on the VIN and said it hasn't been registered in 3-4 years, last registered in Washington, NJ.
It was a red 1994 Ford Lightning, and I'd love to see her again and possibly buy her back.

Is there a way to track it down to a residence somehow through the VIN?

So its either parted out or sitting in someones garage. Cant you contact NJ dmv and give them the vin and you get the last registered owners info for a fee?

Hmm you can go to the ok dmv and do a vin check and they will tell you who owns the car. Guess nj doesnt do that. Could have a cop friend run the vin on his computer...

Washington NJ is near the Island Raceway crowd, your truck might be sitting in a Barn or back of a field in the weeds on a farm.

Found it, it's apparently still registered and on the road, tagged through 12/2014, it's up in Port Murray, NJ.

I have the address and phone number of the owner, but it turns out it registered to a 73 year old lady! Obviously must be her son or grandson's truck just put in her name.

My question to all of you is, how would you go about this? Would you call her up, or show up at the house? I'm guessing if the truck isn't hers, then the real owner (her son maybe) doesn't live at that address. I don't want to creep them out, so this is a delicate situation. Should I let on that it's my old truck and that I want to buy it back because of that, or should I play it like "I used to have one just like it" and was thinking of getting one again? Or should I just call her up and ask her if she owns this truck, and that I found her info through an internet search with the VIN and I am in fact looking for my old truck?
I still have no idea what condition it's in, and I don't want to roll up on them with a fat pocket of cash and be like "hey want to sell that truck? I'll give you $xxxx for it in cash right now.

How would you play this scenario?

No room in the junkyards that's where all the Chevy trucks with 5.3's are at that crazy people buy.

Later Mark.

Port Murray has about 12 people in it. Shouldn't be hard to find.
