I have a used set of the same lying around that should probably be sent in for a rebuild and swapped before that happens.
Thats why I don't trust them anymore. Any time my engine gets freshened it gets new lifters. That motor JUST had to make it to the winter. Middle of July it let go. Only thing I saved was the heads.

Got it all apart and ran some numbers. It is a 454 engine per the casting #3999289. I has a N353039 crank in it, which is a nodular iron 454 crank from what I can find. The only think 427 is the heads. They are casting number 3872702. Looks like they are off of a 66 corvette. They are oval ports with around a 100cc chamber. Says they should be a 2.03/1.71 valve but these have 2.19/1.88 valves. My guess is someone had them machined at some point to accept the larger valves. Anyway, crank is smoked, what are some options with what he has left?? Are these heads any good?

Thanks
James

put a 4.250 stroke crank in there and run it....

change it to a internal neutral balance with a center counterweight..
there aint much that you can reuse other than some bolts..
buy new dampener and flywheel to match the balance of crank....
.......of course new rods / pistons...

Anyone have any experience with Ohio Crankshaft stuff?? They offer a stroker kit with crank rods, forged pistons, with flexplate and balancer for a 496 for around 1500-1600 dollars. I am guessing it is a private label Chinese deal comparable to a Scat or Eagle. Looking for opinions.

thanks
James

do you like cheap no name stuff that breaks....???

scat or eagle aint allways considered the bottom of the barrell....

there is a lot more that is "junk-e-ir"...

and ohio crank is not allways the junkiest....

they have good stuff too..

if you just buy on price only.. then you will in fact get junk...

Their stuff is alright.

If you want cheap stuff that is pretty dependable, here's some parts to look at.
Eagle crank
Eagle rods with L19 bolts
SRP pistons
Powerbond Damper (Part # 1019ss which is SFI)
TCI flexplate

Ok, I now know why Ordinary Builder gets razzed all the time.

As far as Eagle goes, I have an Eagle forged rotator in my SBC and could not be happier. No issues here. Was just trying to help a friend out with his build and know some other guys who run Ohio stuff and wanted to get an opinion on here as well. For what he is building, maybe an 11.0 street car, it does not warrant a $1500 crank, $1000 rods and so on. Using factory oval ports on it too, just not a high dollar deal, if he can help it.

I would use an Eagle forged crank and Scat 7/16 pro comp I beam rods.

There's nothing wrong with the stuff from Ohio Crankshaft. I've bought stuff from them and it's been top notch. For the money they're hard to beat and they know what they're doing and don't mind talking to ya. I bought a 582 short from them and after a lot of street use it looks perfect like it's never been run.
