Alright, I installed the batteries and she fired up. It was throwing out more Black Smoke in the beginning and missing alot. Once she warmed up it got alot better. I Topped Off the Diesel Fuel in the tank and also added some Lucas Diesel treatment. I ran it very hard and seems Great! I will be trading her in once I get the new title from DMV. My old title had a lean from HSBC. Since truck is Paid Off I need a new title stating No Liens on it.

Some auto trans fluid in the fuel will clean up your injectors nicely. I add a half quart for every $100 of fuel in my big truck and it got rid of the injector tap.

Not in a 6.0. The injectors are very finnicky about what is run thru them.

This.

Forget charging them. Anything below 9 volts should be replaced especially on a diesel.

Lol!!! Cheapskate.

Well, truck is hard to start still. I have to play with it some to get it to idle. Then when I try to accelerate the throttle it will choke out and throw black smoke! I am thinking I just need to replace the FICM.

Test it first. Go to advance auto and buy a scan gauge II, it will show ficm volts and many other things you need to monitor. It only cost $150. A new ficm from ford is $1500ish (if your going to buy one get one from bulletproof diesel, its the best you can buy) for about $500.

you can also test the ficm with a volt meter for free.

Come on over to powersroke.org and read the stickys in the 6.0 section before wasting a bunch of money.

Some people pay a lot of money to make their diesel throw black smoke

Talking Re: Damn 2004 F250 Diesel (6.0L) throwing Black Smoke Out the Exhaust!

Just did the FICM test as per Bullet Proof Diesel's instructions. I removed the pin cover that shows I have a 4-Pin FICM on my 2004 F250. As per the instructions, I tested the Pin closest to the driver's side with the key in On Postion. It showed 47.9 to 48 volts. Once I had someone turning the motor over to start, the volts dropped alot! They dropped all the way down to 23 volts. Also, the engine did start but was running rough and still throwing black smoke. The guys at Bullet Proof Diesel walked me though the test and recommended I get their 4-Phase FICM. I am having it shipped to me in 2-days so I can install over the week end. So thanks for the help, I will keep you posted once I install it.

Unfortunately a bad ficm can kill injectors pretty quickly, you still need to get a monitor to prevent a big mess in the future, mostly the health of the oil cooler. A clogged oil cooler will deprive the egr cooler of coolant causing it to rupture and pump steam and coolant into the cylinders causing blown head gaskets.

Also one of the best things you can do for that truck is to run rotella t6 oil and ONLY oem filters.
