Default 1500hp 4L80E

Ok guys the search function sucks balls so can you help a brother out?

Who would you guys recommend for a 4L80E trans to handle 1500rwhp behind my sbf? Lets face it, GM just makes a better trans then ford ever dreamed of.

Sees lots of street miles, need a full manual vb, and I gotta have my overdrive.
No glide or th400 for me...

Any suggestions gentlemen?

A little ford with an F2 is gonna fall well short of those numbers...

Haha! Wanna place a friendly wager?
It's just a street car after all.

Honestly though I'm expecting in the neighborhood of 13-1400hp. So a trans to 1500 should cover me.

If you're in Texas, the first shop to call is Jake's.

Bragging rights. I can say I've got overdrive and cold a/c and still beat you're race car.

Seriously though, I put alot of street miles on my car. I don't want that to change. A 4l80 is basically a 400 made over.

A PG or 400 with GV doesn't have a lockup converter (usually).

I do admit to being a dick I also talk to Gilbert and Lonnie at Extreme Automatics occasionally. I spoke to Lonnie yesterday (he buys parts from me) and I spoke to Gilbert a week or two ago. Contrary to popular belief, all of us builders are not at each others throats. There is a lot of behind the scenes that goes on in this industry.

Now that that's covered, since you are in TX, give me a call.

Gilbert and Lonnie both build a quality unit, but we have dedicated the time to develop parts for the 4L80E (transbrakes, adjustable pressure regulators, etc.) since it is our specialty.

Hi Jake

I too had a read of your trans comparison page and you state;

"All 4L80Es get a 34 element sprag. Some vendors claim this is an "extreme duty" part or otherwise "talk it up". This is an OEM part made by the SPX division of Borg Warner, early model 4L80Es got the 16 element version and need to be updated, later models already have this "extreme duty"component so we replace it with a new one."

That sprag has half the strength of Lonnies 36 element offering.

I'm not impressed...
