Default RIP Mr. Shift (Gill Younger)

Email from a friend

It's hard to think of anyone who has been more influential
to the transmission industry. Measuring his impact would
be like trying to measure Wes Montgomery's influence on
guitar players everywhere.

Not only did he create the valve body kit industry, (until him
the whole concept of a shift kit did not exist), but for others
like Steve Younger, Tony Garcin, and myself, Gil established
a "par" that we unconsciously used as a standard to have
to meet or exceed in our product design.
Even now, while i strive to break into new territory, to really be
a completely independent free thinker, doing whatever it takes
to solve problems, even if it requires creating new concepts
and technology not done before.. it would be difficult, no,
impossible, to deny and leave behind the influence Gil has had
on my thinking and approach to transmission repair.
His influence was second to only one other man, my dear late
friend Tony Garcin.

So, Gil...

Rest in peace my old friend.
You will be missed, but your legacy remains with us all.

RIP Gil. I installed lots of your kits and read your tech help.
I think I need to go out and get a 2nd gear chirp in Gil's honor.

I've installed TONS of Transgo parts over the years, didn't realize how much the little cartoon on the box actually looked like the man himself.

RIP Gil.

RIP Gil.
I also laughed at the cartoon in the 70's until I saw his picture.

Just installed a kit this weekend, in my own truck. Anybody else have the pamphlet with all the tips for high performance transmissions? That helped me make a name for myself in the 80's that I still hear about.

RIP

Jim

Is he the trans go guy? I think I might have talked to him on the phone one time. Did he still answer the phone out at trans go within the last year or so?

I got the chance to talk to Gil when I owned my transmission shop in the late 80's to late 90's. He is a real smart man and I remember talking to him about a GM 440 transmission that kept him up all night. He said we did everything known to man and him so put it under the bench ,install another one and get some sleep for the both of us. We installed thousand of Mr Shift kits...Gil Younger will be missed and remember..Never accept a wooden nickel!!!!
