Try this. It is something I came up with. Very simple, but good.

BBQ SAUCE

1 quart apple cider vinegar
1 quart white vinegar
1 1/2 TBS garlic powder
1 TBS onion powder
1/2 TBS black pepper
1 TBS kosher salt
1/2 TBS red pepper flake
1/4 cup mustard
1/2 cup ketchup
1 cup sugar
2 cups water

In a large pot combine vinegar and bring to just below boiling point. Add everything except water. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 10 minutes. Ad water cover pot and remove heat. Let sauce sit over night.

As far as off the shelf stuff, Tony Roma's is really good IMO.

I'm a big BBQ sauce fan, and keep several different styles on hand depending on the application. For pulled pork/tenderloins I prefer a Vinegar-based sauce, and Porky's Hot is about the best I've had. For Chicken, Burgers, etc, my favorite Tomato-Based sauce is Stubb's SPICY.

I found this stuff when I gave up high fructose corn syrup; it uses sugar instead, which is healthier.

My favorite is the "Squealin' Hot."

If you want to try some thing really good, especially on pork, get some Blues Hog Tennessee Red and cut it with either a bit of Scott's bbq sauce or the Chipotle Tabasco.
this is exactly what i do. I start with a good base bbq and add little things

Look up making your own "Dr.Pepper" sauce. Recipe is all over the net. Stuff is pretty darn good.

IDK if I have had the mesquite, I use the regular one and add a little apple cider vinegar. I have also added some OJ to it. For chicken I use the moppin sauce and finish off with the enhanced Stubbs

1/2 cup grape jelly, 2/3 cup chili sauce, teaspoon grey poupon and a tablespoon dry red wine. I make it for ribs but its good on everything, the ribs are easy its pork ribs not the country style tho , just salt and pepper them a little, then bake for 2 hours at 325 covered then dump out the juice and cover with the sauce then bake uncovered for 30 more minutes, and I let the sauce cool so its thicker when I smother the ribs in it.
