Default Who manufacturers cam blanks ?

I'm trying to put together a group but for turbo cams for Harley Vrods. I think we could round up 10 guys or so. Most current grinders are not interested in pursuing this ( I believe HD gave them some grief when the Vrod first came out). I'd like to see if I can find blanks & outsource the rest. THX

If all else fails try http://roto-faze.com/
Joe has made me some one off billets before. Can be pricey, but came out decent.

We still have the program for the V-Rod blanks, but it looks like we'll need to make 50 sets to get to a reasonable sales price.
We are looking at a way to do a shorter run, and keep the cost down, but haven't come up with anything yet.

Mike, Ball park what are you talking, per set ? Would they all need to be the same grind ? I know guys are running two sets of intakes ( swapping out for the exhaust to get the back side flow up) on turbo motors. Would a single pattern possibly get us there ?

We use to sell the sets for $600, I'm trying to keep the price close to that.
The steel we use is thru-hardened, so we can make one size cam blank, and grind multiple profiles on it.
You do not want a single pattern cam on a 4-valve turbo engine.

Mike, What about any of the grinds you currently have in inventory ? Any chance that either the intake or exhaust side are already what we need & you'd only need to design/ fab the other side ?

I'm sure I already have the profiles you'll need.
I just need to figure out how to make a short run of cores, at a resonable price.

Mike, Help me with the math here, please. On the Forum, the guys figure 50 sets at $600 = $30,000 Harley sells the stage two cams at $500, their mark up is at least 100% so that would seem to put labor / materials at say $250. Unless they did 5000 sets, which is unrealistic, how do we get to the magic 50 set number ? We're not wanting to know your business but are looking for a solution that can help us all. Thanks for educating us on this !

The H-D cams are cast iron, and the foundry made ten's of thousands of them exclusively for H-D.
The cams I made are Billet steel cams, and require 2 heat treating proccesses to H-D's one.

BTW, I don't think H-D's mark-up is anywhere near 100%. When we started selling 100's of V-Rod cams, and CNC porting on the heads, H-D came out with their Screaming Eagle cams and CNC ported heads, and at first were selling them dirt cheap to flood the market.

Thanks to H-D flooding the market 4 years ago, and driving all the aftermarket companies away.

I think Web Cam just welds up the stock cams, and regrinds them.

BTW, if your ATV is a Can-Am, we have billet cams available for it.
