Default 03 Dodge 4.7 Magnum overheating issues?

What goes bad on these things? Its in a Ram truck. Not sure of the milage. Its had a new waterpump and thermostat put in it already. I guess it ok if ya drive around town but if ya go out of town a few miles it gets hot. This is my buddys truck, I havent had a chance to look at it yet, just going by what he has told me. Any ideas?

Possible Head, I had that with my wifes old truck, had a blown headgasket. Make sure it has no air in system.

Cooling fans are bad to go out. The motor plug is straight up and water gets in and corrodes the pins. Probably popped a 20 amp fuse

Head gasket most likely. Those were a common problems with 4.7's especially ones that get ride a little rough or haul loads

The cooling fan that pops the fuse effects the ac,and usually wont cause overheating. Those engines are known for headgasket issues after about 75k miles if not serviced good. Sometimes even if serviced good headgaskets will have issues, sometimes bad enough that the coolant cuts grooves in the aluminum heads. The radiators also have tank cracking issues as stated above but usually dont create overheating, just blowing out at inconvenient times.....like mine did halfway between FtSmith Ark and Dallas Texas on a Sunday.

My old 03 ram had same issue, would hold pressure in cooling system for quite a few hours after cooled down, piss out coolant from overflow, did this for few weeks, I did a block test and found it had a exhaust in coolant. Traded it in quickly before anyone knew. Was a good truck with no problems till that.

Radiator is most likely clogged up... If it's overheated much over half way be ready to replace the head gaskets also. It does not take much to warp these heads at all.

I would do a block test for sure. I have seen several of these turds with blown head gaskets. Its likely a very small leak so even if it passes the block test don't rule it out. The electric fan on the drivers side is a condenser fan, while it does often pop the fuse it isn't what's causing you concern. I have had sever trucks with clogged radiators as well. It is very easy to back flush the radiator with a water hose and check the flow.

FWIW. We had a customer that didn't want to fix his truck so we tried a high end block sealer(don't remember the name but it was like $75) and it indeed repaired his leak and has been going strong ever since(2 years). If it were my truck I would just repair the truck the right way. Make sure you have the head decked and checked for cracks. KS.
