Default Carb problem. Car won't idle in gear.

Looking for some carb insight from the masses. I have a customer who's got a 585 BBC Steve Schmidt motor in his car. It has a Quickfuel dominator on a Sniper intake and 2 foggers plumbed into it. Out of gear the car runs and idles fine once it's got some heat in the motor but as soon as you pull it into gear it refuses to run without peddling the throttle. The motor runs great otherwise. The 4 corner idle screws are about 2 1/4 turns out each which seemed to provide the best idle quality out of gear but it seems no matter where I put those screws it still won't idle in gear. Any ideas on what I should change or look for? Thanks.

Does it have a start retard ...nitrous converters are tight if the rpm falls below a certian rpm it drops 20 deg or what you have the ignition set up

Second converter and does it with both. Both Neal Chance converters.

I didn't think about that. But will the start retard reactivate once the car's been started and reached it's shut off RPM? Or does it have to be turned off to restart that feature?

Man it's hard to fix stuff like this over the internet.

It PROBABLY has a carb that's out of whack from people turning a screw here & a screw there trying to get it to idle.

It sounds way lean to me at idle.

Check the basics 1st.

Do you have any air holes in the butterflies? I've had it happen before where the signal was too low at idle. It was either the slots covered too much front or rear, or we needed to drill some small holes in the butterflies.

look at the tach when it drops in gear and see how far the rpm drops...on mine it runs till it hits 1200 rpm but if the rpm drops below 7 it resets..what system is on it and i will look to see in my files on what his syatems works like

I had the same prob with a new carb. I called the builder and removed some type of screw he had installed and it ran fine after that. It was a few years ago and i can't remember what it was called and i am the furthest thing from a carb expert, sorry.
