I am shocked... Almost every Optima we see ends up in the trash.

I have a red top that is at least 10 years old. Even after sitting under a pile of wet leaves while I ran a 16v battery that lasted one season it fired the car right up. It's been drained dead hundreds of times. It will crank the motor ~40-50 times for 5-10 seconds before it runs out of steam. I can't kill this thing.

If I get rid of my electric fuel pump I plan to go back to 16v and no alternator. At 9500-10k rpm I've been having trouble lately tossing belts, which kills the boost a pump fuse and porks the run. That gets old quick.

The old ones lasted forever.... I think they were bought out a few years ago by Johnson controls and now they are building junk.....

16v lithium battery and 16v Powermaster super mini alternator with adjustable output so it can be set high enough to charge battery but not exceed the limits of what a Big Stuff 3 can handle. Everything in the car is on 16v no voltage reducing devices. Had to run a little larger lithium to handle the alternator as recommended by the guys at Lithium Pro Batteries. Took 80LBS out of car getting rid of 2 red tops and extra hookup cables. New battery only weighs as much as the extra cables to run 2 batteries and the 2nd mount so it was 80LBS net savings. It helps to be slightly insane to pay that much for a battery though. Although it is hard to find anything cheaper to save 80 lbs.
