I had two Dana 60 and there is definetly a difference on the two that I have. One is I can pick it up with the Strange S track and complete but the axles. But the other one with out the spool just the housing was heavier than the one with the posi unit and all. It must have a thicker tubing or something as I couldn't figure this one out myself.

The early ones have holed to bolt pinion snubber the ones out like later model trucks can still use same gears but housing ends have to be changed and on pinion snubber holes witch does not matter unless you are running leaf springs

There are D-60's and HD-60's which are factory 35 spl, i forget the wall of the tubes and added webbing that the other D-60's don't have, those are heavier than the car version or the D-60

Not sure about the Dana 60, but the Dana 70's and Dana 80's, the HD version of both are longer from thecenterline of the rearend to the rear of the center section housing.

If you were to see a regular Dana 70 or 80 next to a HD version your could see the difference.
It is about 2-3" worth!

1 ton GM and Dodge Duallys come with HD 70 and 80's.

I own an '86 GM Crew Cab Dually, it comes stock with a Dana HD 70
My son owns a '99 Dodge dually, it comes stock with a Dana HD 80

Your Pal, Gary
