My old man pro streeted a gremlin back in the day. AMC401 and a 4 speed. I believe he used the rear end out of an international scout. They are rather narrow and some(maybe all) had the 8.75 rear.

I'll check with him later on and see what info he remembers as I think the details should be about the same for either car.

If anyone is interested, my father in law passed away & my mother in law has a 71 or 72 Hornet wagon, rootbeer brown with tan interior, 56,000 miles, never wrecked, 6 cylinder auto for sale. PM me if interested. It is in SoCal & can be had for a grand. NO rust either! Ray.

Awesome looking car, the mid 70s to 80s "small" AMCs always look 1000 times better with the big bumpers gone.

My brother really messed up by not going with the moly cage , its a 25.5 mild steel so thats some weight i cant do anything about ,without ripping it back out....bumper brackets and glass hood are this winters scheduled changes..

what weight difference ya think there is between 25.5 mild steel to moly ?

i fit a 28" tire, 275-60-15, under my spirit no problem with no body mods, a little creative messaging on the rear inner wheel well is all that was needed on mine. with stock suspension you can't have any more than 4.5 backspace on the rims, that will give you 1/2 " clearence between the tire and leaf spring, i now have 4 link with coils and can fit a 15x10 with 6.5 bs and it tucks the tire in nice.

here's my shit box

this is what it started out like with a 4 cyl 4 speed.

what it looked like along the way

and here it is now with a 390 TH400
