Post 454 BBC Stroker Combo Help wanted

Hi there guys ive moved away from the 305 build as previously talked about in a earlier post and this time looking to do a 454 BBC stroker 489 / 496. Well the block casting is a 14015445 GM Block 4.25 Bore 4.00 stroke that had 2 bolt mains but im doing the 4 bolt swap (at the least on the middle 3). Looking to bore over and maybe stroke. 489= 4.28 Bore + 4.25 Stroke That puts .030 over on bore and .025 on stroke / 496= 4.31 Bore + 4.25 Stroke.

Would like pros and cons on the strokers and also maybe a cam recomendation for a Boosted Application (D1 15lbs or so) along with some nice heads as I have the stock heads that ive found to be the ones that Have PASS stamped in them under the valve cover that dosent seem to be a great head for drag racing i cud be wrong my research shows its small int valve of 2.06 exh 1.72 may not be good for a race car?

Thanks guys

you have to be carefull with the cylinder head selection because most are made for the larger than 4.400 boresize... because many have spread wiser valve guides
and the valves may hit the cylinderwall, ( but that can easily be notched away).....

other issue is with the flat quench having more dead area or rather the smaller bore not having any quench

built lots of them 4.310 to 4.375 boresize and 4.250 stroke....

many of the early blocks I would never go over 4.280"/4.310"....bore
sonic check is necessary..due to internal RUST....

4.250" crank stroke is going to need some clearancing at bottom of cylinders and the edge out near the pan rail..

For a blown deal with 15" boost, you need a good basic forged rotating assembly. Import cranks and rods are fine but the "really cheap deals" will be second tier parts, not first.
You'll need a decent ring package. I don't think a typical budget/shelf moly top ring will stand up to 15# for very long.
Your block is fine for 4.280-4.31, but as said, anything over 4.31 I;d be checking things.
Good machine work is a must, especially if you're converting to four bolt mains. It might be cheaper and easier in the long run to find a four bolt block.
Heads...something in the 310-320cc range should work fine for what you're doing. You don't need big heads. For the blown deal, stay away from the cheap heads like ProComp or Patriot.
Cam; I'd go with a custom based on your heads and flow numbers...hyd roller if you want ease of maintenance, and you can make an easy 900hp on good gas with 15# boost staying under 7000rpm. If you want more rpm, more power, go solid roller. You'll need upgraded ex valves like Inconel or Superalloy (Ferrea). Valve train should be quality stuff. Good valve springs, good rockers and stud girdle.
Oil pan...don't skimp here. With the 4.25 stroke, windage is going to be an issue. You want good oil control to protect your investment.
Those are the basics.
