Default 1955 Chevy wheel/tire size

Did several searches without success. Can some of you 55 Chevy owners let me know what is the largest wheel/tire size that you can fit with a stock/factory rear wheel tub? Does moving the leaf spring inboard effect the size of the tire that will fit?

Post pics if you got em!

The 55 has a narrow frame and a big wheel tub so if you In board the springs you can run a 12 inch rim with out cutting the floor. It's the easyest car to mini tub because of this. There is a kit to put the spring pockets in the frame. The stock spring location with the fender lip rolled a 275 is possible but tight. I have a 18 x 10 on mine right now with the rolled lip and I cut the rearend to make it work.

This!!! if you move the springs inboard and had the correct backspace you could get a 12 inch wide tire under it easily. But the outer fender to axle clearance will stop you from getting it under there.

Anything more than a 4.5 bs won't fit with a stock width rear and stock ride height, even if you let the air outta the tires.

I run a M/T 275 Drag radial on a 15 x 8 with 4.5 bs.

We have a 15x10" rim and run a 295/50/15 on our 55 chevy. We cut the front spring pockets into the frame to fit the tires. We also have to drop the rear end out completely to get the tires mounted. Pain in the ass but I think worth it.

My springs are moved inboard. Mini tubbed even with the frame. 12 bolt is 58'' flange - flange. Im currently running 10'' wheels with 6 1/2'' BS. Got some Hoosier QTP 29 X 14.5 fits great with plenty room on both sides. My plans are to go to a 11''Alumastar with 7'' BS with the same tire or a 29 X 10.5w.
