Default 406 Dyno Results

Well the results are in.

406 SBC, AFR 210 heads, 13.2 compression, Holley Strip Dominator intake topped with a 1" HVH super sucker spacer, Cam Motion cam (Duration @.050 263/273, Lift .708/.646, LSA 110), 950 HP E85 carb, 1 3/4 headers.

Peak TQ with 1 7/8 headers was 544. Peak HP was 596.
Peak TQ with 1 3/4 headers was 538. Peak HP was 592.

Average TQ and HP was more with the 1 3/4 headers.

Thanks to all who provided opinions/advice on my questions. We'll see what it will do at the track now.

Maybe I'm off....but that thing sounds down on power with the parts you have.

Something's way off. Are those the CNC ported 210 heads, or the street version?

Was that on a chassis dyno?

AFR heads usually don't require a 10 degree split, unless you plan on spraying it.

what rpm was peak power?
needs bigger heads or head work for 600hp... 2.1" P-rod pinch is choking it.

The heads are the race ready CNC versions, not the competition versions.

The cam is a solid roller cam.

Dyno was a Superflow engine dyno.

The numbers are corrected to sea level. Our elevation is 2537'. Not sure that matters.

Peak power was at 6500, peak torque at 5000. I wasn't in a position financially to purchase different heads, so I had to use what I had. I knew different heads would have performed better.

We started the pulls at 4000 and went to 7000. I did find it interesting that with the 1 7/8 headers, the torque curve would start low, and climb really rapidly then trail off after 5000. With the 1 3/4 headers, the torque curve started much higher and trailed off after 5000.

Also, I'm sure it could use a bigger carb, but again, money is an issue. When I started this build, I wanted it to make more torque than my 383, and about the same power. I wasn't out to kill it or make a bunch more power.

My 383 in it's original form made 588 HP and 504 TQ. A couple years after it was dynoed, I updated the heads to the Eliminator versions of the same head, started running E85 and went from an APD 750 carb to an E85 950 carb. I have no idea as to how much the newer version heads were worth regarding power/torque.

I agree with that. The heads are to small for what you are doing. I would say you have those AFR 210 heads maxed out. The good news is you can have them opened up.

The small cross section parts are a double hinderance because of the E85.

Were the collectors the same size and length on both headers? reason I as is I just dyno'd my 406 with 2 sets of headers both 1 3/4" primary but one set had a longer collector and made more torque down low and the set with the shorter collector made the same peak numbers but the torque started at a higher rpm.

That seems a good 50-60 hp off, at least......I made 582 at 6700 with a LOT less cam, and Pro-Filer 210 heads.
