Default NHRA vs IHRA Rules difference

In this part of the country a lot of the tracks are going IHRA, nobody seems to have a straight answer as far as the drivers license and or chassis certification. Most people think that IHRA will accept chassis certifications and advanced ET drivers liceense from NHRA, but not the other way around. The local track which just went IHRA doesn't really know and they should but I don't trust their info. We run at both NHRA and IHRA tracks. Will we need 2 chassis certs. and 2 advanced ET (or whatever IHRA calls them) drivers licenses? Will we need two different car numbers? Anybody know, please chime in.

The chassis certs and liscences are accepted by IHRA.You will have to join IHRA to run major events.Call IHRA and talk to them. They will tell you everything you need to know. And they will be polite about it.

.

We just had this exact thread.
Like I posted, when my local track went IHRA they accepted nhra at 1st, then stopped.
For years all the ihra tracks I went to as a driver or helper accepted nhra,
then ihra came out with a sticker and stopped accepting nhra license & sticker.
Until your track puts something in writing you will have no clue what they will do??
They can change at anytime, or IHRA can force them to follow their sticker & license rules only??
All the tracks I go to went back to nhra, but I still carry both just in case something comes up??

Maybe this link will help?

http://www.ihra.com/CompetitionGeneral/

Then go to the Racing Information section, and hit Crossing Over From NHRA to IHRA

Sorry if it is a re-post. What your saying is exactly what I'm afraid is going to happen. We have all our stuff with NHRA and the local track said they accept it, but what about later on? The local track here is just starting out with IHRA, and I don't really think they have the correct info or are processing it wrong. We will probably have to have both certs and licenses, but in our case the car number is painted on with gold leaf lettering (nostlagia FED), so that would suck having to put two big 6" high four numbers on the side, it would look really bad.

I had the same issue with being in 2 different divisions.
Since I knew I was never going to have a chance at winning a division anyway,
I joined up for the same division number in IHRA so I only have one number on the car.
I also think it looks like crap when I see the cars with 2-3 permanent numbers and they tape over 1-2??
Remember you can request a license number, you don't have to take anything they pick.

I run NHRA and IHRA tracks, they have been IHRA as long as I know and they accept NHRA licenses and chassis certs. IHRA requires a fire system before the NHRA does, so depending on how fast your car is you might want to check the IHRA rules on that.

I know for awhile IHRA would issue you a license if you already had one in NHRA for the same ET without making you take all the licensing passes and such. I'm not sure if they still do that or not.

Yes, it is very easy to get an IHRA license if you are a NHRA driver.
They just want the money, they don't require jumping through all the hoops, and they even accept the NHRA medical form.
