Yes it will do a good job, and yes mileage will suck,, 8-10 probably loaded. What I have found most is, if it has the factory radiator in it, get a new one. They didnt cool very well with a load and I chased everything down and hurt a motor before doing what I originally thought and just got a good 4 core radiator for mine. I have had several friends who did the same thing, bought a good 4 core radiator and problem solved.

Like the guys said above, put a new good radiator in it, add a better trans cooler (if its an auto), and buy good plug wires. My motorhome eats plug wires. Headers help alot too if you dont mind the hassel.

I know its not the 95 and older but I have a 98 454 Vortec and it tows my 26' enclosed great, automatic trans. Doesn't break any speed records, and mileage is pretty poor, but it chugs down the road just fine.

I had a 95 454 tbi, it did great except the milage, pulled a 24 footer and it got about 8 at best....even had the stock radiator and never gave me a min problem

I got a 95 Suburban 2500, hauls anything with ease. Just drinks gas like a hog.

12-13 unloaded

8-9 loaded

I recently got an 05 crew cab 1/2 ton with the 5.3. Hauls every bit as good, but gets 16 towing.

My 95 has a little over 170,000 on it, and about 120,000 of that was with a 24' enclosed trailer behind it. Still going strong, although it's now with an open trailer.

I haul a 42' enclosed with a 1992 c2500 454 tbi and it hauls it with no problems other than drinking a gallon of gas about every 6 miles. It pulls the cajon pass at 40 mph. It won't be the first rig to the top but it will get it there.

Those trucks (88-95) are some of the most reliable trucks ever made. They make no power and have poor fuel economy but extremely reliable and cheap to fix

Ain't it funny how the gutless turds will run forever and never give you any real problems.

BTW I used to haul for years with a 94 350tbi 4x4 and this thing would drag a 28ft enclosed down the highway loaded with my heavy car and a golf cart. 4.10 gear for the win there. Still have the truck

Now I have a 95 dually 454tbi 4l80E. Love the truck. Slow yes. But its not any slower with the trailer behind it. 8mpg empty. 8mpg loaded. 4.10 gear there too. LOL
