Default SBC 15 Degree intake

Please bear with me, I am trying to learn...

What makes a 15-18 degree intakes different than a 23 degree intake?

Is the intake gasket surface angle different? Runner location? Bolt pattern?

Thanks for informing the stupid.....

the heads are "layed" over more the closer the valve angle gets to zero...so
the intake you use for a 23 degree head would need approximately a 1" spacer for a 10 degree head.

The intake face angle on a 15* or 18* they are the same a 23* is different like Butch says, but a 18X from brodix uses the same as a 23* the spacer would have to be a wedge shape to fit a 23* to a 18*

depends on head ,some have a 10 deg face which is common on 23 deg heads .Some 15 and 18 deg have a 5 deg face.I used to cut about .065 off of 5 deg face vertically to port entrance back in the day because 10 deg face manifolds were only thing available.

Thanks guys for the info, trying to make up my mind which direction to go for the next build. I have a bunch of 23 deg stuff laying around, just seeing if it's usable for 15-18 deg heads.

I want to reuse my Enderle injection that is on a Edelbrock victor tunnel ram. I am leaning towards doing a 421.

your 15-18* true heads have a 5* intake face, 23 is 10* as mentioned, but also the true 18* and 15* have raised runners

23 degree stuff will not fit or work very well unless you want to spend way to much time and $$$ in my opinion......

That is what I am seeing, might as well spend the extra cash and get a matched combo.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

I have put that intake on many 5 deg face heads. It can be a job but like i mentioned earlier you have to cut intake face pad vertically and get it to 10 deg then i cut spacers with laser to raise the manifold to port location. You have to make end pieces to fit between intake and block and use a adjustable collar dizzy but it can be done.Back in the day there wasnt much choice for intakes like now.Just something for you to think about.
