Default HOK...kandy base Coats

Anyone have "real world" experience with it? Im thinking of going with Brandywine over Orien Silver. Just wondering how it looks.

I painted my lowrider bike kandy brandywine over orion silver and blue. I loved the way it looked with the silver it really popped. It also looks good over a gold base.

I've used the HOK true candies on several projects and they are great paints.

I've used the HOK "kandy basecoat" on one project. It is good paint and has great depth but I would caution that you will still need to be very careful shooting it as it is only a little more forgiving than a true candy. In my opinion it is not as easy to spray as a typical base/clear.

I have shot the kbc on a few harleys and 1 car all over ! I would not advise spraying it all apart and for the most part candy base coat is ment to go over white or black . Kbc has metallic in it unlike true kandy which is more of a color clear ! Any questions you can pm me !

I have sprayed true candys, pearls, and KBC for years.
The absolute "fool proof" way to use KBC brandywine, first cover the car with GM medium garnet red, then apply 2 to 3 coats of KBC brandywine over it, then even out the paint and clearcoat. After you wetsand and buff/polish, it truly looks like you used UK true kandy with a whole lot less material useage and mil thickness!
In other words, you will use about 2 quarts of KBC instead of about 6 to 8 quarts trying to get the look you want over the light silver. Also with KBC, you are dealing with all basecoat materials, which if there is a problem (dirt, hair, drip, etc.) you can repair asap. Otherwise, with UK true kandy, you are dead in the water and have to start all over!

Im no stranger to painting, used to work in a body shop. I still paint, but its more with industrail coatings and some automotive paints. I just have never sprayed HOK.

I never thought of the idea of GM Garnet red That would save alot! So thanks for that idea!

The reason I was asking I quess was to see if it gave you the depth of true kandy or close to it,and it sounds like does,so thanks for the response's guys. By spring my MonteSS will have a new color

A web site cant give you any real idea of the colors. Go to your jobber and look at samples.

HOK is over rated. spend some time and have a basecoat formula made to look like candy. the repairability is alot easier and less work later on down the road. with all the pearls and mica in the formulas today it's pretty easy to do, do it all the time....just my 2 cents

IMHO, stay away from HOK candy on a full size vehicle unless you can afford to pay an experienced expert to shoot it for you. My car was done in HOK Kandy Tangerine over silver. See the top video in my sig for a walk around my car. The guy who painted it had experience with HOK candy paints on bikes, quads, and watercraft......but my race car was his first full size car in candy.....and he fucked it all up. It isn't terrible, but I paid for a show-car quality paint job and ended up getting a 20-footer. I was pissed, to say the least. He threw his hands up and said it was the best he could do. That's a whole other story. My point is, this stuff on a car is not for the inexperienced or the mildly experienced. Only have someone with substantial candy experience shooting you car or you may end up with a big disappointment like I did.
