This is awesome!! My dad drag raced back in the early to mid '60s. Brings back a lot of memories. Love the history lessons too!! Keep them coming.

I would mail anyone a copy for your personal use, with a gentlemans agreement that you keep it to your self and not for personal gain. shipping costs will apply.

This is the first race with the new Maverick body, no time to paint, just stencil. This body replaced the Charger 3 body after it was deemed unsafe to compete with. Picture is compliments of www.quartemilestones.com

This is the obvious, painted and ready to roll. I have very few pics of this car, only one in color.

The 2 pictures below were taken at Indy in 1967. Note the beard that Don is sporting. He vowed to never shave again until he ran in the 6 second bracket. Luckily for mrs Garlits shortly after these were taken he ran his pass, and shaved at the start line shortly after the race. Could you imagine how long that would be if he never ran in the 6's, hes to fast for that.

Blower pully on the tarmac, wrenches on the hat, we sure have come a long way since then.

Note the little red corvette in the back left of the photo. That belongs to Bob Kamp, he was the owner of a local speed shop since the 60's called K-Motion. Later his claim to fame was K-Motion valve springs. Our neighborhood growing up went like this. Longlois Drive in Lafayette In. We lived at one end of the street, 5 houses down lived Bob Kamp, 4 houses down from there lived Denny Russell, 3 houses down from there lived Mac Mccord. We have not got to Mac yet, but he ran a fuel altered as well. It was one fast street we lived on.
Dennys blue ford truck pictured behind the Sour Grapes, I am sure Mac was close by.

Here are a few of Mac, early at later years. Mac still to this day age 71 still runs a fuel altered. He was a staple at Firebird raceway in his Gorilla altereds. pics are small, they are not mine, had to google them.

This is Roland Mckinney, Murf Mckinneys brother, if you dont know who Murf is he is a premier chassis builder for many top fuel and funny car teams. This car was built by Denny Russell and Roland. Denny was a shop teacher at a High School, and some of the work was done as a class project.

Can anyone guess what motor is in this car?
