The chassis was rebodied with a 71 cuda and ran for another 2 years after.

Al Vanderwoudes million mile dodge pull truck in the back ground. Als truck was bought from Bill Maverick Golden the legendary Little Red Wagon owner operator. Al was working on the not yet concieved Charger 3 at that time and hung with my dad with the Sour Grapes.

Now THIS is a cool thread, keep posting dude, those are great old school pix, I love to see pix from other parts of the country.
It's amazing though that everyone that post these from different tracks and races from back in the day how many Willys and Anglias there were, I know the track here where my parents raced when I was a kid it seemed at the time if you didn't have a Willys, an Anglia or Mopar you were an outsider!! Hell my mom raced a 64 Plymouth Sport Fury with a 426 max wedge, what I wouldn't give to have that car today!!

A few more of my 2nd dad. This is when they first finished the Altered, it was fitted with a 392 hemi the following year to run AA/FA class.

Everyone has to learn the hard way in drag racing sometimes, this was one of those times.

This was his 1st altered it had a 327 hilborn, with a mag, clutchflite tranny. The new wrinkle wall slicks he assumed 15 lbs would work. He blew the tires off instantly, decided to drop 2 lbs, same thing, 2 pounds again, same thing. Not even 3 feet out and the tires fail. Well next round is eleminations and he knows his day is finished.

The Mongoose is pitted across from him and he sees Toms tires are really wrinkled. So he walks over and says, Tom what air pressure you running in those? Tom says 5 1/2 pounds, Denyy says damn and thats how you run that thing. Tom said yep thats where those tires really work best at. Well he dropped down to 5 1/2 pounds, he forgot to put the wheelie bars on as he never thought about really needing them the way the car was working. This picture was the first 5 1/2 pound mongoose advised run. He carried the wheels for about 300 feet, won the run, dried his pants out, then put the wheelie bars on.

I apologize that most the pictures are pit shots. My parents were there to race and hardly took the stands. But there were the times where 1st round losses forced them to watch.

Sour Grapes willys at Muncie, it to was fitted with a 327 injected small block, then fitted with a 392 hemi the following year.
