Not necessarily. Over fueling is a way to absorb excessive heat, to a point. It's been seen a few times at the sled pulls where the cleaner the exhaust the more melted pistons...

The "perfect injection tune" will burn the hottest right? more heat, more power, etc, etc.

Aan example of a bad tune, but clean exhaust: I've managed to get my truck into limp modes where the rail pressure defaulted to 6,000psi. even at highway speeds. at 40mph my EGT's were 1000. at 60 they were closer to 1400 till I got off the highway.. major lack of timing I'm assuming and massive amounts of duration, throttle input was weird. Perfectly clean exhaust, no smoke but super hot for what was going on!

typically smoke and fuel, means way to much fuel and diesels don't work like gas engines. More fuel means more heat period unless the bitch is missifirng, which is really bad for a diesel.

It's a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport, so it has EFI.
