Default Dodge Death Rattle

if you guys have a dodge truck with the front end problem that makes the front end shake violently, Ive just heard that Dodge is doing a recall on those trucks. as I understand it, its 10 years of 4x4 trucks that have the issue the worst.

check into it.

Nope... Its an inspection and "possible" replacement of the left tie rod on 2008-2011 trucks. And some other year models that may have received this tire rod due to repairs.

Used to be the track bars on the old ones that caused the death wobble. I bought a lifetime one from Napa, and once every 4 years I go lay it on the counter and get a new one.

There's a recall or TSB on these trucks for this problem. You guys need to call your local dealer if you own one of these trucks.

One of the dudes here has one & he found one last night that was quite a bit larger in scope. he said that it covered 10 or 11 years of trucks. I will ask him to dig it up.

"loss of directional stability". ROFLOL.

Just the Facts:
  • Chrysler is recalling 242,780 2003-'11 Dodge Ram trucks because a fracture of the left tie rod ball stud could occur, leading to a potential loss of directional stability, according to the NHTSA.
  • The recalled trucks include the 2008-'11 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 4x4, 2008-'11 Dodge Ram 3500 Cab Chassis 4x2 and the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4, as well as 2003-'08 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks that may have received the affected tie rod assembly as a replacement part.
  • Chrysler has not yet provided NHTSA with a schedule for the recall.

WASHINGTON Chrysler is recalling 242,780 2003-'11 Dodge Ram trucks because a fracture of the left tie rod ball stud could occur, leading to a potential loss of directional stability, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recalled trucks include the 2008-'11 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 4x4, 2008-'11 Dodge Ram 3500 Cab Chassis 4x2 and the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4, as well as 2003-'08 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks that may have received the affected tie rod assembly as a replacement part.
"The left tie rod ball stud may fracture," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the defect. "This condition tends to occur during low-speed parking lot-type maneuvers when the customer is making a tight turn. This condition could result in the potential loss of directional stability in the left hand front wheel, increasing the risk of a crash."
"There have been a few minor accidents and one minor injury," wrote Vince Muniga, Chrysler spokesman, in response to an e-mailed query from Inside Line on Wednesday about the recall.
In other documentation filed with the federal government, Chrysler said this recall is linked to a January 2011 recall of Dodge Ram 4500/5500 trucks to replace the left outer tie rod.
In the current recall, Chrysler's documentation said "analysis of complaints revealed an unusual increase in reports of left outer tie rod ball studs fracturing."
Dodge dealers will inspect the tie rod ends for "relative orientation," said Chrysler. They will replace the left outer tie rod as required and perform a front end toe alignment as needed. Chrysler has not yet provided NHTSA with a schedule for the recall. Owners can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Inside Line says: If you own one of the aforementioned Dodge Ram trucks, be aware that a recall is in the works.

If you have the problem try calling Carli Suspenions. We used to do a lot of business with them at my old work and they have a front end kit to fix the problem regardless of what your using the truck for. Just hope they dont refer you to my old boss/job

a good friend of mine has an 06 4x4 cummins, was doing this real bad! if you hit a harsh bump on the hwy above 70mph it was fukn crazy! had to get below 40mph before it would stop! He put all 08 steering and front end parts on it, had it aligned several different ways (so called fixes from other forums) and still did it. he ended up putting some crazy ass heavy duty front end parts from "KORE" on it, I mean steering box brakets, big ass steering stabilizer, etc. and it did stop it from ever happening again but he spent about 4K on eveything! including some Toyo commercial tires which were also recommended! and about 4 days on my lift! those trucks are flat out junk! ride like total shit! interier is crap, trans is a complete piece of shit! about the size of a c4! as soon as you put a little more power in it, it slips like crazy. already had to put an injector in it (50k miles on it) had to put brakes on it already!!?? WTF! Don't understand the Dodge truck guys? what is so great about these trucks besides the long block? and the fact you can buy one used really cheap!
