Default Ran out of Valve Lapping Compound.....

I just got my heads back from the machine shop and wanted to check out the valve job and lap the valves, but Ive run out of compound. Closest thing I have is valve grinding compound. I know the consistency isnt exactly the same but can grinding compound be used to lap valves? Anyone know for sure? I dont think itll ruin anything but I wanted to ask first. Any help is appreciated.

grit and oil mixed together. You can always run to any auto parts store and typically by the silicone are small tubes of lapping compound

I personally would NEVER use any sort of grit/abrasive on valve faces/seats . I use dykem, or magic marker.....

Machinist should have lapped them in. Every set I assembled for the 2 years I did it got lapped in.

I also like to lap the valves in after a valve job. Lets me know exactly where the seat is on the face of the valve and lets me see that the valve seat has no runout. i also use a starett guage to check the concentricity but like to lap them in for sure

Yeah, I tend to not trust any machinist no matter who it is or how good their reputation. Even the absolute best make mistakes every now and then and I cant afford mistakes at this point in time. None of the auto part stores around here have any lapping compound. Is there anything that I can use as a substitute?

Use auto paint rubbing/buffing compound, it is a finer grit and I think it does a much better job.

If you don't check, how do you know. If you don't know how can you get it fixed before you tear up more? Then who's fault is it or who's bill? Not to say machinist are bad, but we are human. Double checkin never hurt no one .

I'm of the opinion that no matter how badly a machinists pooched a job its entirely your fault if you don't catch it before assembly. The double checking of specs is key. Ill try auto paint rubbing compound.

Try this for lapping compounds. Online ordering is easy.
