most in truck welded the crap out of them or added bars of aluminum to the intake side to move ports and add integrity

I haven't seen it therefor I don't know.

Why would they remove the pan rail?

More power, raw deck blank lifter bore sbc low deck ps truck type block might be a neat possibility.

I think a traditional a blank lifter bore/blank deck sbc block would be a better place to start for a serious Comp style LS motor.

Only reason to consider LS anything is if the cylinder head available shows potential over what else is available for a particular class. I wouldn't use the LSX block for anything but a stock or super stock deal that must run a GM LS block.

Deck height is too tall, not a big fan of the deep skirt block either.

It has its downfalls but again it can be worked around. We use to build 3.8 Buick round track engines years ago at just under 580HP N/A...........with stock blocks.
