Default BBC 990 head

These heads perform pretty well? I know theres alot better heads out there but for a budget build these seem pretty good? They have been opened up on the valves (2.25/1.8 and had all the rough castings smoothed (no hogging) this will be on a 505 cid 11.1 .758 roller team g with 1050 2 1/8" x 3.5 s-comps with 4" exhuast.
Ill get alum heads later on, just trying to get it going..

Built a 468 for a buddy with 990 heads. 13:1 compression with stock crank and rods. 680 roller cam. Car weighs 1840 with him in it. Yeah its a dragster, and it ran 5.00's in the 1/8th

I'm building a 496 with a set of 990s that have had some work done on them, but not much @ .700 they flowed 328 on intake. The numbers vary alot on them from everything I've read so I just had them flowbenched so I knew where mine were at. I plan on runnig something in the 10-10.5 cr range, 260-270 duration and .680 lift, 110 lsa range on mine. Motor is not together yet though so that's all I've got for ya! Hoping for 600-650 hp ballpark, hopefully that's realistic!

They should run good on that 505, Bad. Good luck with it.

If you have the time & patience to port those heads you can make them work fairly well!

It's just a real headache porting cast iron!

Just dynoed a 509", 9.9:1 C.R., 267*/268* x .680"/.685" x 108* ICL Lunati roller, Holley Strip-Dominator, and a QFT P-1050, made 640 HP @ 6100 and 587# Torque @ 5600!

The heads flowed 344 CFM and 239 CFM @ .700". We had previously ported them prior to this build.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. These heads still had the 2.190" and 1.880" along with the 3/8" stems! They continued to flow up to .750" (350 CFM intake/ 242 CFM exhaust respectively)

thanks GOFAST thats very impressive, esp with the 2.19 valve! Porting is no problem, I have spoken with a few bbc guys here locally and they gave me some pointers on cast iron heads. I just didnt want to over kill the topend with big flowing heads. I figure I give these a shot.
