My buddy runs low sevens in his and it depends on tire manufacturer and track conditions. When he ran hoosiers they liked 4 3/4 pounds. Believe it or not he now runs Toyo tires and they like 7 1/2-8 pounds and hook better than the hoosiers with a lot less distortion.

alot depends on the car.. Our hard tail 3 second car likes 4.75 lbs. But our 4 link car Mid 4 second car likes 5 3/4 to 6 with a Hoosier.
And the size of the tire is another. Both of these cars run the 34.5 x17x16

I've got a 04 hardtail, it has M/T 33x16.5x15 tires, and weighs about 1900lbs t/k going down track. Estimated et should be around a 4.60 flat. What would be a good starting point for setting tire pressure...

Hardtails tend to like lower air pressures because the tire needs to absorb more of the hit at launch due to lack of suspension. The dragster I was talking about in my last post is also a hardtail (2005 prostart). I would say with the MT's around 5-5 1/2 pounds should work as a starting point. The hoosiers he was running liked 4 3/4, but I have heard MT's like a little more pressure.

Exactly so. On our hardtail, running MTs, we were running 5.5lbs. When we switched to Hoosiers, we ran 5.0.

I have always ran Goodyears---hard tail car--4.5 to 5.5 lbs--as small a tire as I can run(14 or 15 wide-w/narrow rim) Six second 200mph car.
