Default Powerglide noise in neutral and park

I have a stock cased JW Glide in my Camaro which has done around 100 passed without a problem or noise. I recently removed the trans while other work was done to the car and replaced it without touching it. I have however fitted a transmission shield and flex plate shield.

When I start the car I now have some noise in neutral and park, this noise goes away as the trans warms up.

Apart from the noise the trans works fine.

Do you think the new shields are amplifying noise that previously was not heard?

Thanks

Simon.

It is very possible that the shield has applified the noise as a PG has the planetary active in park & neutral. If the noise seems to get worse with time then I would say that the sun gear is starting to get some "spalling" on it which will make the gear set louder.

When was this trans checked out last ?

more than likely you just hear the hum of the planetaries, but it should be there all the time, not just when it warms up.

get under the car and check your flywheel and starter. i have seen a starter bendix vibrate around on the flywheel and make a chirp sound that you will never find.

Thanks guys, the trans was new last year, it has covered about 100 runs, we run a 550hp smallblock engine with a 100 shot of gas, as yet we haven`t touched it, it creeps forward a little in neutral, worse when cold, which I understand is OK, other than this noise when cold I am very happy with it. We run very consistant 10.60s and the car is great fun.

Glides do make some noise but if you didn't hear it before I would not expect you to hear it now. Is it possible that the trans shield or flexplate shield is touching the floor somewhere?

Pretty sure the shield is clear of the floor, the shifter cable is a little close here and there now, maybe we will have to watch the oil and keep going till it shows up.

I just fired up a new build. , PTC converter, 180 straight cuts, pro brake etc. All new, it has a pretty noticeable whine noise. Was louder the first time I ran it. Still makes the noise, just not as loud. How loud of a noise should a glide make? It gets faster and a little louder when revved. Had a diff glide built the same in another car, and didn't hear this noise, but that car had 4" bullets and was loud and this one is quite. Nothing to worry about?

Brett, I wouldn`t worry if I were you, since I noticed the noise in my glide the car has don 200+ passes and lots more other noises and issues have kept me awake instead.

Thanks for the update. I guess I never knew they sounded like that until I built this car. Pretty quit exhaust. Talked to tranny guy and he said the same. So time to thrash on it.
