You know this debate is kind of like the debate of which is safer, flying or driving. All the stats show you are 8000 times more likely to get killed in a car crash than in a plane crash but there are still hundreds of thousands of people that are scared to death of flying even given as many yrs as we've been flying. When someone gets killed in a car crash people tend to react like that's just part of driving and it's going to happen. You even see wrecks driving around from time to time but when a plane crashes it's on national TV and everybody acts like it's such a tremendously terrible thing, compared to a care wreck, but dead is dead whether it happened in a car or a plane.
Where do you come up with these analogies and facts?!!!

Guns weren't designed to take lives??!! I'm sure ole when Sam Colt designed his revolver, he said to himself "this thing will make target practice so much more practical."!!

There are 8000 x's more cars than planes!! Planes fly in a strictly controlled enviorment. I could go on and on why......!

I guarentee that if a car wreck took place and took the life of a 100+ people in one hit, it'd be on the national news!!

You should get a job as researching facts for CNN! They love facts like these!

What I haven't seen or read is a story about a homeowner that was found dead next to his gun safe becuse it took 3 seconds too long to get his gun out.
Charlie, I think we see eye to eye on this matter and I appreciate your comments in the thread.

I do know of a matter where a guy was killed next to his safe though. He had it opened, but was shot before he could pull the gun. The grey area comes when we install the fact that the person who killed him was his wife.

Now I'm not saying these 2-3 seconds are not very important I'm saying the gun is still of use to me. The chances of a child getting the gun and hurting themselves is far greater then every having to use the gun in a break in.
You aren't disagreeing with me!! That is my thought exactly.

As long as you have yours, I'll be holding on to mine!! Even if it takes me an extra .003 seconds to access them!

We're really not that far off topic! I'd still like to hear more ideas about what they consider "kid safe" without dropping their defense considerably. And maybe a little less about how I will die if I lock my gun up!

If you have a safe(which I find zero problem with) get another layer of alert system. Nothing beats a barking machine. Heck that barking machine going off might be just enough to thwart a would be bad guy from breaking in on you.

I agree, mine was the trained the same they are a very intelligent breed.

This does work very well if you can stand to have a stinking mutt in your house. Personaly I'll do without as I hate dogs even though they do serve this purpose.

Your woman will leave you. Your friends will ditch you. Shit, your family might even disown you. But your dog will ALWAYS be there for you, till the bitter end.

Mine won't because I will never own a dog. I hate all dogs. I've always been a cat person. Have three of them.

I'd be interested in seeing the gun safe you can get your weapon out of in 3 seconds. It would take me that long to get mine out of the dresser drawer, with no lock.

And for the record, I said you would be at the mercy of whoever broke in to your house if you couldn't get to your defense weapon of choice. I never said you'd be dead.

Dogs barking, alarms going off etc. are all good things to have. Gives you more time to prepare, or will may get rid of the intruder altogether.
