I think there is a lot to be desired in these heads still. I bought a set from a comp friend, and got sheetmetal intake, heads, jesel rocker setup, cam, lifters, pushrods, even spark plugs. This setup was run together on a runnin motor just before I got it.( run all together ) thats worth something, meanin someone spent some time on this setup. Rons porting service did the porting.the valves a 2.17's, ports are BIG, and the intake is very nicely done. Cant wait to get a little help picking a cam and what ever I need and making the motor come to life.Oh and its going on a 422cid.sbc. Ive talked to Curtis B about the possiblities of a small amount of nitrous use and Chad about the heads ..So feel free to comment ...PRODUCTIVELY please.....Thanks DR.

I am not a nos guy but is a 10 degree head preferred? It is symmetrical so the exhaust heat will stay down. I used them on a 360 and a 377 cube and they were too small for my combo. Just couldnt get the cross section over the turn needed. But as far as the comp stuff we had record holder in many altered and supermod classes with them. When I was at Mike's we had the baddest Buick stuff out there. But that was almost 15 years ago.

Curtis said he can do something with the heads for use with NOS but I believe they would then be a nos head not an N/a head ajny more.He may see this and say something about it I certainly dont want to misquote him. Thanks DR.

They were good back in the day but then hit a wall, & almost immediatly became yesterday's news. I believe the problem lied with 10 being too shallow for an inline head once it got to a certain point. Need to be splayed or use a very large bore. Ran them last back in 96 in a C/SM combo. Had two engines, 286 cube made 690 HP & 316 cube made 759 HP. Only allowed to run one (1) 4779 (750 Holley) in those configurations.

We ran a set on a 286 SBC in a tube chassis Ness Camaro at 8.5lb/cui and they were killer. Would run as well in the heat of the day as they would in good air.

Notwithstanding the fact that there are a lot of newer heads out there, still think they are worth a look in a small bore/cube high rpm Comp/Super Stock style engine.

Cheers,

Pete

Rich is right, not enough beef in that head.

Rich, Mike Saye was World Champion one year in Comp that ran Buick stuff, you part of that? Gary Chomski built some really fast Buick stuff. Bud Harper was probably "the" guy on Buick stuff.

However, the best Buick wouldn't run with an average 18 back in the day. Except as mentioned, 2 carb, stick car..

Melanie and I had a C/ED back in the day with a 304 Buick. I ran B/ED with one also.

PS. The Brodix head reminds me of Dart/Buick.

The brodix head is what the Buick head wants to be...

I think with the right work, the Buick head can make good power, even better than average but like anything it takes $$. There's no reason to start from scratch with them unless you already have a decent set.

I have a nitrous customer with them, and they make good power. Not great power but north of 850 with 400 cid, and a nitrous set up in the piston, cam etc... the 10 degree chamber is already small and it creates some challenges.

I think we can probably make around 900 with it this winter and that will be about it for these heads with a nitrous combination.

We were making 940 w/362cid with a dominator. It was a B/ED engine.

The 304 w/750 carb was making 730 hp.
