Default Doug Herbert solid roller cams sbf

I saw another thread on here about his lifters so I am now wondering about their cams. I'm in the process of having an engine builder friend of mine go through my afr 205 heads and also looking into upgrading the cam. I had a comp street roller xr292r cam in the car before. Was looking to step up to their 308dr cam but was looking also at possibly using a DH cam. Anyone used them with good results? I'm gonna be hitting it with around a 300 shot next year but the car is mostly street driven to shows and it might see the bottle 2 or 3 times. The car has a funnel web intake and will have a 850 dp with annular boosters.thanks

Ran a herbert hyd roller in my SBC, sold it to another member on here. Made great power for what my little combo was, no complaints.

I have 6 or 8 engines with Herbert cams in them, all solid rollers. His lobes are all older lazy designs. I don't think there has been any R&D there for 20 years. I only used them to get the customer in on the bottom floor of solid roller cams and never in any RACE engines. I stopped using them about 3 years ago when I ordered 2 at the same time for 2 different builds. They took my order and acted like they were in stock. Up till this time all the cams were at my shop with in 3 days. 2 weeks later , no cams. I call and have them look at my order and they told me they had to grind them because they were not in stock. A week and a half later they show up, in some box with a name I never herd of. Turn's out they sold that part of the operation to some no name guy. I don't ever remember the name right now. I can tell you that there cams were never great on the numbers matching the card when degreeing them. Both of these cams were bad. One was off 4 degrees @.050 on the intake, and the other was off like .010 on the lobe lift. the finish was borderline.

Do they work, yes. Would i use them ever again NO. But they are cheep.

post 12 reply.

which donny...?

a LOT has changed in two years and especially in last few months.

there are three different "donny" people

one donny does not work in cams any longer

one donny has sold the business to another person

one donny does not work at herberts any longer

one of them does not grind cams for herbert any longer

not every cam sold by herberts was actually ground at / by herberts.
