Default TH-400 spitting fluid up and out the dipstick tube

I was told by an ROP member that this would be the place to get an answer to an issue that a friend is having with his turbo 400. Shifts normally (nice crisp shifts) but it will force fluid out the top of the dipstick tube. When the transmission is full it will push it up and out for a while. Nothing comes out of the vent tube though. Vent tube is clear and open (ran a wire into it). It is not leaking out the front seal, rear seal, transmission cooler lines, etc. Torque converter is old (supposedly off a 64 GTO). This transmission was working fine before I put it in storage for about 5 years. It was not taken apart during that time.

Any ideas of what could be the problem?

Sounds like the vent is plugged!
Even though you can push a wire into it doesnt mean the pump cavity is open/ clear, only the tube. Put a vacuum pump on it and see if it holds suction or not. With 5 years of storage you can have a spiders nest or other insects build a nest in the pump cavity.
If you blow air into the vent you will have a mess of oil come out of the dipstick!
Are you sure the dipstick and tube are correct?

Check the vent tube for blockage, do a fluid & filter change and report back.

Tube and dipstick came off a good turbo 400.

I'll see if I can get to those this weekend. Thanks for the suggestions.

Check oil level is correct also . Level should be approx equal to the pan flange. 400's can be sensitive to overfull

Was it hard to fill with oil initially?

I realize this is an older post; but was the vent-tube clogged and did "clearing" it help? I've recently encountered the exact same thing (blowing ATF out of dipstick and all over the back of motor,etc.). I did a search and found this and was curious if it was ever resolved?
Appreciate any input that might be offered. Thanks.

Is the new filter a mesh screen or paper filter?

Mesh screen is good , you may have other problems. Oil level incorrect, restricted cooler lines, pump halves not flat or distorted, fwd drum checkball leaking, sealing ring leakage etc.

Thanks for the input. That'll give us a place to look. I feel like it'll one of the last three you listed. I'd never get lucky enough to have something simple.
Again, I appreciate your time.
