Default 700r4 no reverse

I bought a 87' Blazer K5 lifted for playing in the mud. It had no reverse but the story I was told I figured it would be easy to fix. Well now I am not sure.

First off i took the valve body out and the shift kit he gave me the box for was only partially installed so i finished the install and found the pressure regulator area was done wrong and modified some the reverse boost valve was in upside down and there was a part ground off.

The truck doesn't ride any kind of good so test at speed is hard. But as far as I can tell all shifts are good and all gears are fine. Aside from reverse is not there and neutral won't let the car roll with the engine running. Almost as if forward is everywhere even over by park it will go forward sometimes. I was thinking of just going thru it but it scares me there is something else wrong with like part miss-match or not assembled properly.

I know the case is a 1988 which he told me the old case broke mounting ears off. I have a receipt from the trans shop that moved it all over. The other thing i notice is that the B&M instruction tell me that this valve body was and 1984 or older since it doesn't have the larger check ball over by the TV cable.

Any help would be nice. I really want to make sure that a rebuild and maybe replacing a few hard parts is all i need.

Thanks in advance,
Darrell

Most shops throw the large TV check ball out during a rebuild/etc. The neutral and park problem would have me a little worried, first things first you need to verify shifter movement/adjustment.

With the trans apart the column shifter was right on mark but after i got it all back together it is like if i don't go from 1st to park it doesn't go into park. And like i said all six possitions including reverse (acts like nothing) and neutral (is first gear pretty sure) will not allow the truck to roll backwards while truck is running shut it off and she rolls backwards down hill.

I kinda figured it was the direct or forward clutch pack probably beat the hell out of the drum too. Now that is stuff I can take care of

fwd clutch is a definite/likely possibility, they don't tend to damage the drum in a 4L60. - May have hurt it due to low line pressure with the incorrectly installed boost valve.

just an update haven't had time to work on it but I went to move it to the driveway to work on it and now it has no forward but reverse is back so it was welded forward drum clutches so should just need a rebuild at this point. Thanks again all.

I just had this problem with my 88K5. After beating the piss out of it at the local mudhole the trans is acting funny.
With the engine running it drags in reverse like the brake is on. With engine off it will roll no problem.
