Default Getting intake air for the blower cooler air, any benifit?

hi, If I relocate the intake air filter on my procharger to outside air say infront of the car vs in its stock location just above the headers....will this help to cool the charge going to the carb?? Does the blower heat the air up that much regardless of intake air temps? Thanks!

I do believe that it really, really helps. I hope that someone else chimes in: I think that Dennis Moore of Moore Racecraft did this and picked up HUGE hp gains.

I am in the same process--going to go through my inner fender panel and put the intake inside the wheelwell to get it away from all that engine/header heat.

Hi and thanks for the reply! I certainly hope it does!! Im running 190-200 degree temps going to the carb now with spinning the blower harder(smaller pulley). Its so hot that my engine actualy runs too hot just crusing! I might need to go to an aluminum radiator as well. I did the relocation this weekend...nothing fancy but got the air filter mounted under the car, in front of my front tire. Should be cooler there for sure. My fuel pump is out getting rebuilt now( magnafuel that over heated) When I get the pump back and im up and running I will post the "after" air temps to see if this worked or not. Thanks!!

Yeah, I definately be interested to see how much it affected your intake temps. I have yet to check mine--F1 12psi not really spinning it too much now--I may just do like you did w/my infared thermometer @ the blowoff valve.

As far as the engine running hot, been there done that. I had a Griffin aluminum rad w/2 12" flex a lite low profile electric fans. Just was not cutting it. It would be up to 200-215 in no time flat. With my BBC combo I was running before it was adequate, but not with the blower. I just installed a Ron Davis custom dual core crossflow alum rad w/ 2 12" Spal fans...holy crap, the car never goes over 185--even in mid 90 degree weather. It's very nice not having to worry about watching the temp gauge all the time. Top notch product!

I am also in the process of intalling my Alkycontrol methanol injection system. I don't have any room for an air to air--very tight on a Chevy II!!!

talk to ya later...

Buddy of mine said they moved the air intake on a D1 procharged SBC to get air from the cowl area and gained 50 rwhp without any other changes.

I went from sucking at the headers to sucking thru the cowl induction hood(Sealed) using a 1 inch over the inlet size pipe (5") and picked up 2 mph. in the 1/4..... OLDHEAD

Just for an FYI I did move the inlet to outside air and noticed a 40 degree drop in air temps!! This was with a small p600 blower at 10lbs boost. I have since sold everything tho , to concentrate on my sons jr drag racing career

I'm just a simple fella who likes going fast and to me its no brainer. Obviously if you start cooler you will end cooler. My theory may be wrong but it sounds good to me.
