Tony, age doesn't really matter. Skill and attention to details matter. As shown above, how the hell do you expect to fill a 1/2" void with a welder? That is pathetic! The guy should have taken the time to heat the plate with a torch and beat it down to fit against the floor. Maybe not the best way to do it, but that it how I do it.

Owning a MIG welder does not make someone into a welder. Same as owning a laptop doesn't make someone an EFI expert.

People really baffle me with their stupidity at times!

Nope, it doesn't...I'm 20 now, but I started out with the cage in my Nova at 15 years old and it's all downhill from there

This thread is always great to look at after Gilsbach or DMC or some of these other guys post stuff and I feel like a hack. - I may not be a pro, but if I did anything even remotely close to the stuff in this thread I'd just request that someone shoot me.

So they wind up with a piece of shit thats only good for sheetmetal or 1/16" at best plate. Mig with the right current and selection (volts) can get the job done right. This is why stick was not allowed because all the slag hid the bird shit welds, when really stick is what holds every skyscraper together on the job site. So its the user and the knowledge of what your buying and so they keep trying to weld .125 MS with a match, and it aint going to happen. Most little welders are rated with flux core wire which gives you a hotter weld and with gas and wire it aint worth a shit. Anything less then 200 real amps aint worth buying. So again its about education on the correct welder for the right job and the numbers game by manufactures lead the suckers to the sladder. Back to the basics the right tools for the right job. If it cant burn a hole thur it without leaving a build up and then turn it down to suit its to fucken small.
You get
Bird Shit
I have a cheap little Hobart Handler 175 mig and it welds great? I have only ever used it with gas (75/25) also? Even mild steel .125 wall??
The more I use my tig the more I like it though! I got a steal on my Syncrowave 350 and I love it! mostly picked it up to do aluminum plus it was $500 bucks!LOL! (big company went out of business and actually left it in the shop!!?? the guy cleaning it up said $500 and it's yours!) Hell also got a hypertherm 900 plasma cutter for $300 that was there! Damn that was probably the luckiest day I ever had!

Sorry back to the bird shit welds!!!!!!!

Bringing this thread back!!! Got a car in for a 25.5 upgrade and I just have to share....It goes without saying that it all needs to come out...It's all chromemoly, btw....TIG welded, if thats what you want to call it, except for the mainhoop to the rocker plate, which appears to be MIG'd. I havent even dug into it at all yes, this is just visual from the top side inside the car

Outer f/c bar&kidney bar

f/c gusset

f/c cage, notice the foam glued on to hide the kink

main hoop to #1

not sure what process this is

unwelded frame rail to #1
