UREA has been used in European trucking for some time now. From all indications they are trying to get away from it now and go back to EGR. They have experienced problems with the UREA additive. THings such as pricing, availability, its corosive characteristics, its ability to become costic if it hits hot exhaust and anything hot enough to cause it to evaporate. One of the biggest problems is its shelf life. If it is not stored within the correct temperature its no good.

I have seen reciepts from within the US for 17.00 per gallon for UREA.

Navistar is going advanced EGR based on these things.

Bottom line is the end user has to educate themselves before making the purchase.

Besides that, didn't Ford supposedly put 100's of 1000's of miles on this last motor somewhere like Anartica before they put it into production and they claimed there were absolutely no problems at all with it?
I have been testing them for almost a year now.. Part of my job.

Power will be reduced if you run out of the stuff. Sometimes it limits us to a set MPH.. Usually 55...

No. I do on-the-road durability testing.

Hey Silver

What was the fuel economy you were getting in testing? Please list the rear gears and cab/bed config.

Thanks

LOL! All I will say it is rather impressive. I have seen some AMAZING numbers, but that was on a vehicle the engineers were messing with. Never saw anything close to that truck on any I drove..

Does it get Harold Snepts when he was with the Canucks or Frank Mahovlich with the Leafs numbers?

If the MPG the same as the bust size of any known TV starlet or waist size, or shoe size?

The Dodge 4500 and 5500 trucks also will use DEF, and I *think* that the 2011 DMax will too.

From what I've seen of the 6.7L so far, it has a goofy turbo design and both the intake and exhaust ports are on the inside "V" area of the motor. It ought to be interesting to see how a complete Ford diesel design compares to the previous Navistar/Ford stuff.

I'm sure tuners will come along shortly and bring decent horsepower and torque numbers (and hopefully DEF/DPF elimination), look at what they've done with the 6.4L already. Then the concern will be driveline durability.

The intake ports are where you are used to seeing
the exhaust ports on most motors from the Ford
nomenclature we have..At least you dont
have to de-cab the truck to do major work like the 6.4s.

There are local truckstops with the DEF fluid dispensers
up.
