On the verge of starting the 25.5 cage in the X275 car, and I reckon it's time we get the ball rolling on getting some tubing down here at the shop. From the looks and sounds of things, you guys are recommending PA Steel or A.E.D.?? Is this correct? Any help you guys cane provide is greatly appreciated.

I would go with AED... PA Steel didn't stock a few of the common 25.5/25.2 tubing sizes when I called about 6 weeks ago. Contact Dave Gordon at AED... [dave@aedmotorsport.com]

For the last JR I built I got the cromo from the chassis shop. Even with shipping it was cheaper than anywhere around central cali. Next time I'll shop around.

Does anyone else get semi-random lengths when buying from a big tubing supplier? I just went to pick up my order today, and noticed that instead of three 20' lengths I had one 22' length, one 17', and one 19.5'. I paid for 60'. When I complained he went and swapped the 17' for a 19.5'.

Yes, anywhere I have ever purchased tubing in full lengths, it comes random from 17' to 24' and the purchaser cannot choose the sizes.

randoms seem to be the way it is unless you specify you want a said length for each piece

But do you only have to pay for the actual length you are getting? In my case the 22' length was for a smaller (and cheaper) tube size, so I was being shorted a noticeable amount in value.

When I used to buy steel for my family business 25+ years ago, when I ordered 20' lengths I got 20' lengths! If I had a big order they threw in free delivery, otherwise someone would run and pick it up, but they were ALWAYS 20' lengths. I dealt with 3 different steel suppliers and all were the same. Have things changed that much in 25 years?

^^^ Ordered 2500 in tube from TW Metals today and the lengths were listed as 17'. They said they would charge any additional length (if the tube was longer than 17') when the order was pulled. I think the last time it was quoted in 20' lengths then adjusted. 1 5/8" was 4.57 shipping included.

i have always paid for the length they supplied , i always ask for the longest length they have and order so many lengths not a desired measurement unless i need a certain amount of one size , and the price has always been per ft or per inch in some cases

Dang, best price I could find in this part of the country (the place I'm griping about) was $6.56/ft without shipping for 1-5/8"x0.083"! I wish our prices were that low!

As the guy in will call explained it to me, the pricing and billing is done in their office (which assumes full 20' lengths), then they just fill the order with random 17'-24' lengths without adjusting the sales total. He said 17' was more common than longer pieces, but if I specified it as longer they could look for specific lengths. Hopefully if enough people get them to dig through for longer lengths, they will fix their billing system so they can correct for random lengths after the order is pulled.

For what its worth, a lot of the tube I get from PA steel has A.E.D. Motorsports written on it?
