Default Best SBC Stock Heads

I am building a circle track engine for a local dirt track. Its called a "renegade" class. Gotta run .420 lift hyd cam(max) stock crank, rods, flat top 4 eyebow pistons, performer intake, 500 2 barrel holley or #1850 4 barrel holley. We cant run any small chamber heads, no 461's,041's, Vortec etc. Does anyone know what would be the best head # to run? I have been told a 441 (last 3 digitis in casting #) is good. 882's are easy to find, but we are gonna cut them down a lot (no cc rule! )and want the strongest head to resist cracking as well. Any suggestions?

Just stock or can you run aftermarket heads? Gotta be cast iron right?

882's get a bad rap for some reason, but I've had some motors with 882's using 2.02 1.60 valves, some decent port work, and a good surfacing. They made good power, for what they were.

I believe they also have one of the better flowing exhaust runners of all the stock iron heads out there. Don't know how much that would help or hurt on a N/A application. Works good for blowers or nitrous though.

Don't know the exact specifics of your camshaft rule and how much choice there is in that low of a lift, but possibly you could use a grind that would keep the cylinder charged longer. Since you can't run a domed piston.

I'll probably run an Isky cam. I run them in the .450 lift rule engines. They have 244 dur at .050. They have a .420 lift with 248 at .050 too. Howards has a .420 lift with 250int 254exh at .050 as well. I gotta run stock production heads. (cast iron). Are the 993 a small chamber originally? We cant port at all, and gotta run 1.94 1.5 valves. Thanks Guy's

No, no small chamber heads at all. That includes 461,462,041,292,Vortec, Cant remember all the #'s but ya get the picture. However there is no cc rule so we will cut the heads down as much as possible.
