everything I've had to read plugs on has had a PG trans(bump neutral and kill everything etc...) now I need to do some plug checks with a reverse valve body th350 so theres no bumping neutral, if he kills it in high gear its still gonna draw some raw fuel in the cylinders, how well will the plug read like this? what is everybody else doing with this type situation? Thanks!!

cant you just hold the leaver and take it all the way to N... i always did that with my c4 and it had a rev valve body..

NEVER put a 3-speed in neutral while decelerating if you like walking. Rev vb or not.
Just leave it in high gear and click the motor off as you turn onto the return road. The reading will still be plenty clean enough and you're not risking exploding a drum.

As for the plugs being plenty clean... That's relative. Depends on if you want a true reading or one that is just close IMHO. |

I fully agree that it keeps you from having a 100% true plug reading, but so far it has worked well for me and many other running 3-speeds.

Marc, what happens is the gear section rotates at a multiple of the output shaft speed, I am not sure of the exact numbers trans to trans but for an example if you are turning 10000 rpm (just to make the math easy, I don't have a calculator handy) and your multiplication is 2.23 your drum would be rotating 22300 rpm. Some may only rotate at the multiple of 2nd gear it all depends on which clutch drags but even at 1.81 it could get ugly. On the glide the gearset is so small the centrifugal forces are small.

I've wondered this myself. Can you kill the ignition through the lights leaving it in high gear?

if the trans was built right the coast band should not be in the tranny. in a 350 or 400 so all you have to do is shut off the motor.

The Rossler 210 has planetaries that are specifically designed to handle extreme RPM without explosion, in addition to a 123n clean neutral setup.

The clean neutral vb's keep the direct drum applied, but dump the forward, thus keeping the direct drum from "hyper speeding". Killing the motor is no different than clicking into neutral, once the pump stops turning the applys will dump.
If neutralled at speed, the direct drum can/will counter rotate from the output shaft speed via the first gear ratio; thus a stock ratio th400 can spin the drum 2.48 x's the output shaft speed, a stock ratio th350 can spin the drum even faster(lower 1st gear). Again, search "neutralling" on the trans forum. You'll find a lot of input from people who know much more than me. - I used to drop back to neutral as well, but have stopped doing so pending the input of many builders and a little research. IMO, the perfect plug reading is not as important to me as walking.

OK so I have a stock rebuilt C6 with better clutches and a forward manual vb. I should leave it in 3rd gear and shut it off to be safe correct? I have done the neutral thing but only a handfull of times.
