I heard that there are aluminum hoods/hinges, core supports for 81-87 G bodies.

GM made stock aluminum radiator core supports for the G-bodies (see maliburacing.com). However, they are kind of hard to find. I found one to go in my 87 Olds 442. I weighed it before installation and, if memory serves, it weighed about 12 pound versus the steel core support that I pulled out of the car, which weighed about 25 pounds.

I also cut the door bars out of my car and weighed them before they went in the trash and they went about 12 pound a piece. I replaced the bumper shocks with the aluminum brackets that you can buy from a number of different vendors. The front shocks went about 8 pounds a side and the rear shocks, which are shorter, went about 5 pounds a side. I pulled the front and rear windshields out of it with the intentions of putting in lexan. However, I weighed them and they were pretty light (don't remember how much). I decided to go back with the glass because I didn't want the hassle of dealing with the lexan.

The hoods and deck lids on these G bodies are very heavy. Going with fiberglass knocks a bunch of weight off.
