Default 2010 Outlaw Drag Radial (Preliminary Rules)

I have decided to post a "Preliminary Set of Rules" for everyone to view and give their thoughts. I will set the rules in stone on November 13, 2009. I hope everyone can see that the class has been tweaked over the years to allow racers to race at other venues other than just MIR and that requires adjustments.

Also what is everyone's thoughts on changing to race one Friday night a month, instead of twice a month?

************************************************

2010 Outlaw Drag Radial Rules

FORMAT:This is an 1/8 mile heads-up class run on a .400 pro tree with a pro ladder. Outlaw Drag Radial is a qualified quick 8 field. There will also be another class called “The Shootout” for qualifiers #9-16, and it will be run on a pro ladder. This allows non-qualifiers to compete for additional points and a place to race.

Body: The car must retain its original appearance and profiles. Aftermarket fiberglass replacement panels are limited to hood, front fenders, doors, decklids, and bumpers only. No one piece front ends, hoods must be removable. All front ends must be of factory dimensions and cannot be stretched. Aftermarket wings and spoilers are permitted. Complete stock appearing front and rear bumpers are required. A hood must cover the entire induction system. Forward facing hood scoops are permitted.

Interior: Factory appearing dashboard, headliner, upholstered door panels, and driver seat is required. Aftermarket steering column is permitted. Full Carpeting is required. No bare paneling permitted. No grace period, this rule is strictly enforced.

Windshield/Windows: OEM glass or lexan windows are permitted.

Chassis: Complete stock chassis and frame rails must be retained. Back-halved cars are not permitted. Front core support may be modified or removed. Aftermarket bolt-on replacement front K-members are allowed (if front shocks bolt to K-member then they must be in factory location). Mini tubs are allowed, but must be completely upholstered. Rear frame rails may be notched for clearance.

Engine: Small block or big block engines allowed with any deck height permitted.

Turbochargers: Any type intercooler is permitted. Cannot combine with nitrous oxide except on 2-rotor, 4-cylinder, and 6-cylinder cars.

Superchargers: Any type intercooler is permitted. Cannot combine with nitrous oxide. Roots or centrifugal superchargers permitted, no screw blowers.

Nitrous oxide: Any type multi-stage nitrous system is permitted.

Transmission: Any style automatic transmission allowed. No clutchless manual transmissions. Electric shifters or air shifters are prohibited.

Induction: Any type induction is permitted.

Oiling system: Dry sumps are permitted on all cars.

Exhaust: Mufflers or inserts are required on all cars except for turbo cars. Exhaust may exit underneath car or out the front fenders.

Fuel: Gasoline or alcohol is permitted on all cars.

Street equipment: Functional headlights, taillights and brake lights required. All headlights, brake lights, marker lights, etc must be on car and not removed for any reason. All vehicles must be driven to the staging lanes, but may be towed back from their passes (do not tow to the staging lanes or you will be disqualified).

Suspension: Turbocharged and supercharged cars must run stock style suspension only. Nitrous cars must run stock style suspension or ladder bars only. Four links are prohibited on all cars. Aftermarket direct replacement components such as: front control arms, rear control arms, front coil over shocks, and rear coil over shocks are permitted. Aftermarket rack and pinion steering allowed. Rear leaf springs, springs, shocks, and coil-overs may be moved to accommodate tire clearance, and do not need to be mounted in stock location. Sub-frame connectors, rear sway bars, and torque arms are permitted on all cars. Wheelie bars are permitted on nitrous small block cars only.

TIRES:Any size drag radial tire is permitted. Small block nitrous cars are permitted to run 30” x 10.5” slicks, no W tires.

RULE REVISIONS & CHANGES

In order to maintain the most level playing field possible, MIR will constantly monitor the performance numbers of the numerous combinations in this class. From time to time, it may be necessary to adjust minimum weights to help promote class parity. These changes will be made if a particular combination is deemed too dominant. Racers should take this into consideration whenever they are constructing their cars. Also MIR reserves the right to change Outlaw Drag Radial back to 1/4 mile at any time during the season, with one week’s notice. Any rule revisions deemed necessary by MIR will be officially posted on www.mirdrag.com before the event in which they become effective. Be sure to check the website often for changes throughout the year.

General: Entry points, qualifying points, and elimination points are totaled per event for the driver. If a qualified driver is broke before eliminations; the driver will receive entry points, qualifying points, and first round loser points. Alternates will not be used during eliminations.

Tie Breakers: In the event of a tie in points at the end of the year, the tie will be broken by 1) driver winning most races, 2) driver entering most races, 3) highest qualifier at the final points race.

Dropped Races: Each drivers lowest points race of the season will be dropped. This is put in place to help a racer that may have missed a race or had not done well in a race.

Discrepancy: It is the driver’s responsibility to calculate his or her own points. In case of a discrepancy, you must email a notification letter within 15 days to jmiller@mirdrag.com after the points are posted. If notification is not received the points will stand as they are.

X2 on the purse.

Rules look good... except that ladder bar rule, but definitely understand where you are coming from. Should be another good year!

mabey you could give some of it to the shootout winners, it might draw more of the guys that cant run with the faster cars.

I cannot afford to double the purse guys. I can barely afford to pay the purse now with the class being run on the 1/8 mile.

And we will not pay more to the shootout winner, and have people sandbag to win that class. It wouldnt be fair for a #9 qualifier to win the shootout and get more money than the #8 qualifier who loses first round. That would be backwards.
