I am looking for some feedback on which cam and how much comp. should i go with. I am thinking of a stroker kit but dont know what to choose? I am looking to run low 10's in a 3400 pound car w/driver 68 camaro.

Race gas or pump fuel ?
Full-time race car or does it see street driving as well ?

We need more information about what it is you're going to be doing with the car.

-) track only or will it see street driving
-) race fuel or pump swill
-) gearing
-) trans & conv
-) slicks or ?

IMHO, those heads are too big for a 454/460/468 and even a 496/505 unless you plan on spinning some rpms.

I was told the same thing, a 345 intake runner is to large for a 468. I am planning a build very similar build and have a set of 345 intake runner heads. I have N20 also, and that would help if I wanted to build a N20 race engine but I dont. I am thinking of running a light weight rotating asembly so I could run 8,500 R.P.M. but that is hard on parts. So far it looks like it would be best to either sell the heads or build a bigger cube engine.

If you pull off running the 345 on your combo let me know how it worked out. I was told it would be a real pig especially in a heavy car and forget about street driving it.

If anyone has run 345 intake runner heads on a 468 please post the results You now have two Y.B. members in the same boat.

Those heads will be fine with a 496/505 but you need a bigger cam with more lift to take advantage of the bigger heads air flow. I have a couple buddys that both ran 5.80's which equates to about a 9.05 1/4 on true radial tires. They both ran AFR 335 heads one with a 496 one with a 505 in 70 novas. You'll need to get the compression in the 14-14.5 range. If you dont want to stroke it and add compression and a bigger cam then yes I agree they are too big for a 460. If you'll be driving on the street any at all just sell the heads and buy some 315 AFR's. Those will easily get you in the low 10's. Best wishes and good luck guys.

One other thing with Dart 345's is, if I remember correctly they have a pretty big combusion chamber. If you only have a 460 cu motor it will take some pretty big domes to get the C/R up.

I am by no means an engine expert but I do know those heads are way too big for your cubic inch.Your goals can easily be made with a 310/315 head and some compression with a properly matched cam. Its all in the combo.I run a AFR315 head with low compression, stock suspension and I run in the low 10's. Look up 10secbu,he has run in the low-mid 9's with a 460/BMF 310 heads. Its all in the combo being properly matched! and from experience I would definitely suggest a dyno..........kill the guess work!

my motor combo right now is 2 bolt main 454, .030" over, srp 13:1 pistons, eagle 6.385" h beam rods, ohio crank 4340 4" crank, comp s/r cam 312CR-10, dart pro 1 335 cnc (which should out flow a as cast 345) victor 4500 intake, 1150 dominator, E85 from a holiday gas station, edelbrock performer rpm nitrous kit, "250hp" tune, pushed a 3415# nova to 9.18@144 through mufflers, dot tires and street legal, so no not too big of a head for a 460" bbc if using nitrous.

I'm wondering about the whole "Too Big" theory when it comes to cylinder heads. The L92 Castings that come on alot of the 6.0 Ls2's from the factory are 260cc runner w/2.150 intake valve and a 2.9 acsa. When is a head too big?

My two cents is with that size tire, the big heads will help you hook up out of the hole without having to go to a fancy retarding ignition system....

My chevelle had pro 1 345's 468 na. It went high 9's @3500# in good air in the heat it went 10.1's . My cam was pretty big I will look around for the specs but when I sold the car the paperwork went with.

My car also had a 29.5 10.5W usually had 1.3 60's with a best of 1.28.
