Default LS1 In a Dodge Ram

The truck used to have a big block 440 in it, it was fun and seemed like a tq monster, but the mpgs just weren't there and it was hard to make a smog era motor run good, I think it was a 8.1 compression motor with a .420 lift cam from the factory

Since I bought my 2000 z28 in 2006 it have been nothing but impressive, runs low 10's and gets 22 mpgs driving 60 miles to the track.

I swapped the 78 440/np203/727 for a ls1 with a 4l60e and a np208.

The 440 ran a 15.7 @ 84,(9mpg) the ls1 has run a best time of 14.0 @ 94 getting 18mpgs, also the truck is now 540lbs lighter, sounds good, but now the suspention is really bumpy, still need to take some leaf springs out to soften it up a bit.

It took a little while to get all the mounts and transmission lined out, but once it all lined up the LS1 was at home

The Ls1 is a completely stock 98 model with a corvette "batwing" style oil pan. I found a good deal on some stainless steel headers, ported the throttle body, and rebuild a 4l60e I bought from a guy who had it in a 700hp twin turbo camaro. The 3-4 clutch pack was smoked, and the 2-4 band was missing, a simple rebuild kit and a 4wd output shaft made it ready for the np208 transfer case

I did a few things to the 4l60e....beast sunshell, borgwarner dual cage sprag, hd pump slide springe with sonnax boost valve for the pump, stiffer 1-2 acc. spring, drilled 2nd and 3rd gear feed holes to .093. This made for a very quick shifting transmission, but not to hard to where its going to break parts.

These pics are in no specific order, just a few of the build along the way
