Default For those racers pulling levers ...

I have a friend of mine who wants to run something like a lenco/jeffco behind a 1000hp BBC on the street. His ride is more of a pro street but it would see some time at the track a few times a summer.

I'm looking for some recommendations on what you guys think he could use for both on the street & at the track.

A fellow racer who runs West Texas Outlaw Pro Street. Has a 67 f3r charged 555BBC and runs a Lenco 4 speed and Hays Mountain Motor three disc clutch. 1200+hp cruises the streets of odessa and races on the streets of DFW with it.

A regular lenco is not designed to be street driven. get either a Jeffco or a lenco st1200 (designed to hold 1200hp)

The old style Lenco doesn't have a neutral, you have to hold the clutch in. The ST does.

I drove a lenco CS-1 4 speed on the street for years with a 2 disc AFT 11"clutch most user friendly street trans I ever owned. they have a neutral .Just the old funny car stuff doesn't .when your on the highway and you take your foot out of it the trans freewheels . Pull up to a light shove the clutch in . push the levers all forward and start pulling over again .Your bud will just be making first to second shifts 95% of the time anyway. With a BBC BE AROUND 2.42 TO 2. 52 First gear with about a 4.10 to4.30 in the back.Shit I even rigged a speedo drive on the back of mine. I wouldn't run any other trans on the street.

Try to stick with the aft stuff 2 disc 5191 with a bronze floater . Stands up better on the street .Be about 1200 pounds base. When He gets the car to the track the tune up won't change much .Run 10w oil in the trans and change it a couple of times a year.you will need a 8 1/8 can with a cross shaft. to clear the clutch and run around .080 to .100 thou airgap. on the street.AT the track run it about .060 thou. with the finger hieght about .235 for a base line. hope this helps

Definately a lot of fun. There is always something going on, and the look that you get when people look inside the car is pretty cool. I haven't had that great of luck with my St1200 though. And it's not an economy minded project, that's for sure.
