undeserving people. A couple of weeks ago I was taking my children and school and lo and behold a female on the damn cell phone blew through the stop sign causing me to slam on the brakes. To top it off she had to be going what appears 45 mph down the street. She never even looked either way as she went through the stop sign. At the rate she was going, my 5 year old son would've been........ I was so fucking upset that I remained that way for a couple of days. .......and this was only one block over from my house. I admit I had all type of no good evil thoughts going through my mind had that bitch slammed into my vehicle. I just had to run through the backyard to get to my house and open the safe. People driving while on the cell phone is my #1 pet peeve. There has been studies that show people driving skills equals that of an intoxicated driver. I know there are laws where you can be ticketed for using the cell phone while driving (distracted driving) but you have to be pulled over for another violation to get hit by it. There should be laws on the book to ticket anyone who talks on the cell phone while driving as an offense all in itself without having to have another violation in conjunction with it.

2 days after seeing this video I heard of a girl that was text messaging her friend and walked straight out into traffic and got mowed down by a truck and killed. |

It's funny that here in New Jersey they can pull you over for it, but it's always the cops I see on the phone! Who's going to pull them over for it? I don't understand how the ones who are supposed to enforce the laws are the ones breaking it?

I tell my wife to get off the damn cell phone and drive, at least while my children are in the car. In the last year she has had two accidents and she's always on that damn phone. She claimed that she was not on it but i'm not very confident, but I also do not accuse her.
Now I tell her to treat every intersection as either yield or a stop sign because of the near tragedy with my children.

people automatically go brain dead when they got the phone to the ear and driving, it should be illegal everywhere not to be on the phone and driving at the same time.

yesterday, we were stuck behind a woman who was weaving all over her lane, slowing down, speeding up... yup, you guessed it: on the phone. She was looking up the number and dialing when we finally got next to her. This is why I want and outside speaker and a mic in the truck.
But a few hours before that, we're in I-85 in the heart of Downtown Atlanta, honking along at 75mph or so in 6 or 7 lanes of pretty decent traffic, and Boy Wonder says "Dad! That guy next to us is texting with one hand and drinking a soda with the other! He doesn't even have his hands on the wheel!!!" I typically hate Big Brother devices on vehicles, but I really can't see a situation where having a cell phone jammer engaged while the vehicle is moving wouldn't be a great idea. -Brad

Not to start an argument, but the article says he was suspected of being intoxicated (failed field sobriety test) and talking on his cellphone.

I caught that too Jimmy but still a lot of people go into an oblivion when they drive and talk on the cell.

I hate people on the phone while driving but I REALLY HATE people
TEX TING while driving! That is absolutely WRONG! There is no way you can be looking out the windshield when your looking at the phone! Riding my Harley I have almost been hit a half dozen times by people on the damn phone! And they wonder where road rage comes from! |

I hear ya, some can multi-task and some can't. I think the hands free setups help a ton. I've noticed that most people that drive with a phone to their ear hold it on the drivers side blocking their peripheral vision and probably making it near impossible to see their side view mirror. Trust me, I'm no angel either. I use a bluetooth setup or set it on speaker phone as well as some other habits I'm trying to break.

Multitasking is the whole thing. Cops usually can drive and yak on the phone while punching numbers in the computer and eating a donut. Soccer moms generally can't do or think of anything while driving without being distracted.
I know some people that should not have licenses unless they are restricted to dry daylight, non traffic rural roads only. No radio or passengers, no smoking, rear view mirrors that are only adjustable to view the road behind. When you see a person walking that has to stop walking to talk on the cell phone they can't drive and talk either. That is what busses are for. |

I agree with above poster - there should be an ignition interlock where cell phones are jammed when the engine is running (or car is in gear). Of course, the cell phone lobby will make sure this never happens.
