I knew Tom from his SoCal days. In fact, we worked together for Craig Breedlove on the Spirit of America project. Tom was always a craftsman. His dragster bodies were always first class. A Don Long chassis and a Tom Hanna Body and an Ed Pink hemi was the cats ass. Plus, Tom was a pretty normal person. Most of the body men I knew were downright weird. Before Tom became the premier dragster tin man, the title was held by Wayne Ewing, another craftsman. I knew Wayne very well, too. He was a strange duck but a very likeable guy.

A legend, Ivo's "Barnstormer" dragster. This is what it was like in the glory days. Amazingly enough, this is the one that got away, this car has completly disappeared. Ivo thought he had a line on it once, offered $400,000 to buy it back. No sale, no car. So, what to do? They built a new one, as close to the original as possible. The last half of this link shows you how to build a fuel dragster.

There was a time when even the biggest names in racing toured the country in a regular car, and an open, single axle trailer. Enter, 1962.

My dad forwarded me an email that's been floating around the net with a bunch of pics and captions, and I stuck a page up for it...

Ah yes, the Iron Mistress. Note the size of the parachute. All the 'chutes in those days were old surplus military stuff.

Yes, you are right. That does look like a Don Long car. Most of Don's chassis had a 180" wheelbase.

Here's a Don Long car fit for a "King". Jerry "The King" Ruth, from the great North West. I talked to Jerry not too long ago. He has a supercharged 2004 Lightning pick-up for street cruzing, Accufab equipped, of course.

Son of a gun, I was browsing around on the wediditforlove site and came across this article. I didn't even remember giving it to them. I am getting old.
