Default Racing Karts?

Anybody in here got kids in racing Karts? My sons 12 and trying it out this weekend with a borrowed Kart. Im told new Kart set up is about $ 5500.00. I see a ton of them on Racing Junk but not sure about the size. He would be in Junior Class but they said all Kart sizes are same from Junior to adult?

go to www.ekartingnews.com

great website for karts

during my layoff from drag racing i raced karts, i bought a use one for $2500 and ran mid pack. If you want a good yamaha motor call Woltjer Engine.

Karting is great but it gets out of hand real fast, make sure you get him a rib protector as well. My son is 4.5 he drives everything around the yard but i just feel jr dragster may be safer than a kart.

Also you will get the usual parents who think there kid is the next Lewis Hamilton.

Enjoy

I would also look into purchasing a Hybrid or R3 neck restraint from Safety Solutions. They are functional with or without safety belts. We race Quarter Midgets and then karts in an indoor league and use a kid's R3 for both. PM me if you need more info.

i picked up a 125 shifter a few years ago for around 2 grand. But i was 23-24 then. weighed 180lbs. The kids that was whoopin everyones ass was 15 or so. Weighed about 100lbs. Not much you can do when someone has you by 80lbs in a 40 horse power racing setup. Not to mention, when you have to pay 5-6000 for a compeditive 1 cylinder motor.. i said fuck it, and got back into drag. lol

i raced from 11 to 21. they do make junior karts that are a bit smaller but your son is already 12 his chassis would be the same as an adult one. the thing that changed was the axle we ran a softer one as a junior to allow more flex at the lighter weigt. if you are buying new there are different chassis for different weights and the dealer can put you in the right direction for your sons class.

i played with them a few years back, always ran in the middle of the pack. if you think its easy it isn't, and you need to run new tires every weekend if your going to run up front, atleast in the higher horsepower classes you do. good luck on your venture it is a lot of fun once your dailed in...

They are racing them on dirt oval here... at first I thought Whatafu !!!! Went and spectated for an evening and to tell you the truth its quite cool... running on dirt oval with slick tires and basic engine rule has made this ultra competitive and loads of fun ... my kid has a cart now for this but he needs to wait till he's 16 to clear insurance waiver so he can race . They have no problem with him lapping in practice and it is way cool ... miniature modifieds is what they remind me of, with that left front tire in the air and all ...

X2 on ekartingnews. My son is 7 he started racing Kid Kart last year at 6,Seems to me there are lots of people with money in it. $5500 will get you something nice .It seemed to me that Kid Kart was one big secret. It does get out of hand fast. Some of these parents are addicted to it and push their kids to the point where they make them cry.My son is running Kid Kart this year again.Last year was just a learning experience. Make it fun for him and let him get used to it.Lots of bumping and rubbing too if someone is too slow. The older kids that are doing it for a while won't think twice about that.Make him get lots of seat time and practice time.Good Luck.

I raced for years and was many time IKF Chamipion in Enduro Karts Open Heavy and Stock Appering Heavy It was cheaper to run a Car for me. 3 sets of tires 6 motors, fuel, entry all the spares. 18000 Rpm Motors dont live past 1 race without going into it, and a new pipe and clutch every month or your just a also ran. Stay 4 stroke its cheaper by far.

Good Luck it was a Great Father son thing to do.

What kind of motor 2 or 4 cycle? My son has been racing since he was 9 and absolutely loves it. Junior could mean anything from age, restrictor plate size under a 4 cycle carb or size of carb on a 2 cycle motor.

ekarting is primarily adult karters on the west coat it collects traffic from all over of coarse. It's simply not the best source for junior karting in the mid west/left coast. imo

for someone in your area I would go to www.badgerkartclub.com it is the home of the wka nationals and the premier track of the mid west located in dousman, wi It's by far the largest kart club anywhere around the mid west area.

It also has a classified section and a forum and they are probably way more opportunity to talk to junior/kart racers for help and advice.

http://www.usainternationalraceway.com/ is another wka track in the midwest located in Wis it also has classified and a foum as well. The POC is Scott Pappe and a personel friend who operates the track as well.

I had $11K wrapped up in a new shifter Kart real quick. My body couldn't take the beating even though I had all the gear. It was $300/day when I took it out and if it ran all day without something breaking. It was just too expensive and I offed the whole thing; Took a beating on it too. It was real fun though...

"shifter karts" the closest thing to controlled chaos as you will ever get ....LMAO

Shifter kart drivers.... haul their balls in a wheel barrow to the starting line...

my son raced karts from kid karts to junior yamaha clutch to sprint/enduro shifter karts at the age of 13 yrs. Many years of karting tons of local championships and 3 time wka champion.Lot's of fun and father/son memories a shit load of work and lots of money.
