trans has only 300 miles and 10 runs at the track. foward and direct look perfect. line pressure is good. alto reds and kolene steels. this is a 600hp 3840 weight car. what should i look for to find out why this happened ? thanks, dave
badly burnt, black with small chunks removed in places, steels and backing plate had bad hot spots.foward and direct looked like new. using stock valve body w/ transgo 1/2kit. 1-2shift valve, blue spring on the inside of the 1-2 accumulator valve. transgo seperator plate(dual feed type),2nd gear hole in plate @.136 3rd @.156.
34 element sprag,6 disc direct. roller rear thrust bearing.
pressure @idle
w/vacuum with out vacuum
park 120 170
reverse 180 300
drive 120 145
2nd 160 150
1st 160 160
reverse stalled against the converter w/no vacuum was 350. cruising @55 light throttle 80psi. when kicked down 3-2 jumps to 120. when kicked down 2-1 starts @150 then gradually drops to 120 at the 1-2 shift. when put in manual low has 180 while driving. when manual shifting 1-2 has 180 in both gears. trans was perfect for 8 runs @ the track and some street driving. next time at the track the 1-2 shift felt like it hung there for .4 of a second. pulled the trans and found the burnt intermediates. any suggestions apreciated. thanks, dave
A few things to check. Gasket between the plate and case may have torn , partially blocking the feed hole through the support bolt. Support bolt loose? Indexing of the 1-2 shift valve in the bore. Accumulator regulator valve setup.
At that hp level the shift kit method may not be enough. You can stick with the 3 plate int setup and step up the flow to 2nd by removing the 2nd feed and 2nd acc check balls or just leave everything as is and go with a 4 plate clutch pack.
I like the older T400 smooth int clutch's for street strip cars but if your going to the 4 pack you will need the 4L80E stuff including the pressure plate to make it work.
thanks hutch. looking at it closer the only problem i can see is the accumulator piston bore in the rear servo. the bore is worn .008, when i put the piston in the bore there isn't much drag. would this be a problem ? thanks, dave
