Default Memphis is Done!

http://www.memphismotorsportspark.com/

NMCA and LSX to GIR in Madison?

From DRO:

Memphis Motorsports Park closes

Dover Motorsports, Inc. announced today (Nov. 30) that it was ceasing all operations at Memphis Motorsports Park and that it would not be promoting any events in Memphis in 2010.
As previously announced, the Memphis facility had been under an agreement of sale to Gulf Coast Entertainment but Gulf Coast was unable to secure financing.
“This was a difficult decision for us, but one that ultimately was dictated by economics,” said Denis McGlynn, President and CEO of Dover Motorsports. “We greatly appreciate the many years of dedication shown by our Memphis employees and their efforts to make Memphis such a great destination for the racing community – from racing fans and drivers to sponsors, team owners and sanctioning bodies. For all concerned, including the Memphis community, it is truly sad to see Memphis Motorsports Park taken off the racing schedule. NASCAR has approved the realignment of our NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series events from Memphis Motorsports Park to our Nashville and Gateway facilities.”

Memphis motorsports park is/was the only forum big enough for large events like super chevy or nmca in memphis area. I'm sure that Bebop(Holleysprings ) would like a shot at hosting the event but more improvements will need to be made.

It's the big suck. Next closest 1/4 mile track is about 250 miles from MMP. We do have tons of 1/8 mile tracks though. Probably no less than 10 within 100 miles of MMP.

Yup. Bowling Green followed by St. Louis are the closest 1320s.

Sure would have been nice to keep it open the remaining 5 weeks of the season. Especially with the GORGEOUS weather we are going to have THIS week. Phuckers.

All you Memphis racers are more than welcome to come to Huntsville and race next season! Besides the R&R Bracket race on Saturdays they will be hosting several UORS and ORSCA heads up events!

Has there been any progress on a drag strip @ Nashville? I know when they built it, there was provisions for a 1/4 mile drag strip along with a Legends and I think a dirt oval. Been a long time since I last saw the plans.

Sucks they closed the doors - they had some killer events/races.

Looks like there will be some changes for the ADRL, NMCA, and a few other events.

I wonder the same thing seeing I'm only 20 minutes away(if towing).

They have been running eighth mile races at Nashville Speedway on oval track's pit road the past couple of years. They even set up a real timing system this year. Seeing as it is a Dover facility maybe they have plans to finish the 1320 they started building a long time ago. ???

I know better than to get my hopes up though. It would be nice for me not to have to go 90 miles to BG for 1/4 mile racing.

Memphis track was nice but Memphis itself reminds me of Detroit or Buffalo maybe worse. Pretty sad places. Seem to be competing with each other for 1st place in the worst place category! Memphis itself could be the reason Dover wants out, we'll never likely find out the real decision.
