i did a search and came up short so i thought id start one.

looking for street strip sbc combos. i meen real street cars full interior, pump gas , stock wheel well street cars . that can be driven . i dont meen on the highway but at leist to work and back and some cruise nights and car shows as well as some trips to the track. this is the type of car i build and like and so i thought id try it this way. thanks in advance.

unless your building a heavy tank theres no reason you cant run 9s with a decent 23* sbc on pumpgas. Go with better heads and light wt. and some high 8s could happen, as it takes about 750hp @ 2800lbs to run 150mph, and theres a few here that have built pumpgas SBs that make that much or more.

yenko, not sure if you want a 23* setup or step up to a little better head design but i have done both and run very well. the old nova i had was street driven full interior stock suspension with many many pumpgas engines, it was my test bed for engine combo's..you can run 9's with a 18* setup. 23* takes a lot more effort to push a normal 3500# street car into the 9's on pump gas.. with a little power adder you can make the maro fly.. i would do a large cid 420-434 pumpgas with airwolf's, rr allpro's, 220 allpro's, 235afr,245 afr, or step up to a set of rfd 18*, bmf 18*. caltrac, th400, 3.73 gear and your should be good to go.. i can run 8.40s with a very highly modifed 430+cid and a fogger running a 230 dart head that has way to much work, time and money into them but there 11 yrs old and do the job..the intake i used is a ported gm bowtie it had a ported super vic and ran the same numbers as the bowtie..4500 carb btw cool ride is it real??

My buddy's combo: 72' Nova, 355, GM crank & rods, speed pro forged pistons 11.5:1, Comp solid flat 250ish @ .050, not sure on lift, 215 Iron Eagles (old heads), Dart single plane, 750 Demon, MSD 6AL, 175 shot, with this set up it ran 11.4's with a cold bottle, and horrible conditions, really bad DA. I just sold him a set of AFR 210 Eliminators, he says the car is night and day now. Hoping to get the car to the track again some time next year with warm bottle, and better conditions, should go 10's pretty easy, even up here in this shitty DA. Car has full interior, 12 bolt with 3.73's, slappers, and 26x8.5 slick. When the weather is good, this car gets driven almost daily, for him to go to work and back is probably 40 some miles round trip. He has raced more than one ladder bar / big tire car, and beat all of them on the street. Hope this is a good example of what you are after Yenkomike....

Joes car does run well..........working on a pump gas small block right now, for a 3600lb street car. 1050, 2970, Dart cylinder heads, and block, 402 inch, 272 duration cam with .849 net lift. Good luck bud.

No doubt bud, it is the one that I posted the spin tron data from a while back. I will definately keep you in the loop. The only thing that matters to me is that it goes quicker than my last combo did.

When I say street car, I do intend on doing Drag Week with it. And driving it whenever the sun is shining.

Pump gas,3775 pound car, 4.10 gear
421,track one 227 cnc,s 262/269@50 .699/.710 112 lsa, solid roller, Brodix hv1002 intake and a pro systems 1050 4500. I ran drag week this year with it and didn't have any issues and averaged 10.90 for the week. The weekend I got back I ran it and went 10.70@124. A lot slower than a lot of the guys here but I like it. Port work on the heads and intake and possibly a cam swap for this winter since it was originally gonna get a plate setup but now I may want to keep it n/a.

the cam im running is a
isky solid roller 276/282 @.050 640/640 lift 106* lc installed at 103*

the one im looking at is
255/263@.050 600/600 lift 110lsa

really the only reason to change the cam at all is to get a better 60'. with my curent engine set up and convertor im sure i can get 1.50 60' times. but is there more in it with a smaller cam ?

i ran a 7.18 at 99.93 mph and i think i can get 7.0 or high 6.90s with good traction and the right gearing .that is with my engine the way it sets . i guess what im asking is there more in it with less duration? and if so how much.i know its a hard question but if i change the cam and get nothing or a tenth then why change it i'll just gear it for the cam i have . thanks. thanks

You need high compression and at least a 5800-6000rpm stall ++++++

With your converter (5200 Is what I see) you need the ~255/263 on a 105-106 lobe center

yenko, if max power is your goal? put the vic jr in the sell section. have someone go through that head use the cam you posted 255/263 600/600. 10.5 to 10.8 will work fine with that cam on 91-93oct. once the power is made it's all in the car setup.. the car doesn't care or no if it's a bigblock or sbc making the power.. the cam that in your engine now is very close to the cam duration in my pumpgas sbc 430+cid but i have a 240cc runner and a big ported intake with .800 lift made over 750hp runs 9.3-4s in a 3300#ish car..

i know 2 sbc pumpgas combos similar to these cam specs with more a bit more compression with a 227cc version of the T1 the heads flow in the 310cfm range , one runs a ported 2925 and the other a ported bowtie , both weigh around 3150lbs and one runs low tens and the other has been mid 9,s . both combos are great street/strip deals with the low 10sec combo running in the 8.60 range with a shot of nitrous

yenko, you can try to put a bbc intake on a sbc but hmmmm..then you can put 500 into it and cut it down to and a 1/2 spacer plate and a 1/2 restrictor plate lol. then have some one weld it up for runner dividers.. after all the you could have just bought the right intake..

87 T/A with a 415c.i. pump gas. Prob around 3500-3600lbs. Dart little m block, dart pro 1 230cc heads (mild bowl work and valve job), vic jr. intake matched to heads, 10.7-1 comp, solid roller .630/.630 252/258 on a 107*, 950hp pro systems, pretty much all out of the box parts kept cost down and made 547hp & 523tq on the engine dyno. Runs great around town. 700r4 trans with a small (for now) 3500 stall,3.73 gear (untill rear end change next year then 4.10 or 4.30), GZ sportsman vac. pump. Not yet to the track. Engine runs smooth and runs in traffic perfect, even in 90* heat. Couldnt have asked for more.

thanks. im going to do some changes before spring and the cam makes the most sence i just havent quite found what im looking for yet i have ben looking at different cams but nothing is just what i want i might just have to get one ground.

if i get one ground it will be

254/260 at.050 600/600 lift with a 106 lsa. but all i can find it 110 lsa or to much duration. or the split is wrong . dont get me wrong im not a cam grinder but i like tight lsa cams in 406 engines. thanks
